This is the second year in a row we have stayed here. I’m hesitant to write this review because I don’t want this rental to be booked up next time we want to rent it! The house is beautiful and truly feels like a home away from home. It’s immensely better than staying a hotel. Compared to many of the other vacation rentals one can find on Kauai in the same price range it has a much nicer decor and furnishings, a larger kitchen and more bathrooms. We really enjoyed sunbathing, swimming, boogie-boarding and surfing at Hanalei Bay, the beach that is only about a 7 min walk away; playing the ukuleles we bought at the local ukulele shop and having family sing-alongs on the great lanai (deck) which faces the mountains; preparing our own meals to eat in the spacious dining room; and walking/shopping in the funky little town of Hanalei. There did seem to be more traffic and people than last year – perhaps the movie “The Descendants” has let out the secret about this awesome destination. So if you are looking for very quiet solitude this may not be the best location since this house is right on the main road and there is some traffic noise in the mornings, although it didn’t really bother us that much. It is still very different in experience from the more heavily-populated resort-filled tourist areas like Poipu. One other thing to be aware of is that there is often high surf at the local beaches (Hanalei, Tunnels, Ke’e, etc) in the winter, but if you have a car you can easily drive east to some other beaches towards which are generally more protected and not a very far drive. You can also do this if it rains – most times there is somewhere on the island that is sunny. The property management was a pleasure to deal with and really made it feel like our home: if we needed anything they were quick to respond but aside from that we were left in complete privacy. All in all a wonderful experience.
