Neighborhood

The neighborhood:
Island Sands sits in Maalaea, an oceanfront harbor town with an unhurried central-Maui feel. Walk toward Maalaea Harbor for a snorkel cruise, a winter whale-watch, or a meal by the boats, and visit Maui Ocean Center for an easy family outing. The beach next door is a peaceful place for a shoreline walk, while the broader Maalaea Beach stretch runs along the bay. Kihei is a short drive away for more beach parks and dining. It is a strong choice for travelers who want a quieter oceanfront stay with Maui's activities still close.

Transit

Getting around:
A rental car is recommended for exploring Ma'alaea and the rest of Maui. The harbor, beaches, dining, and attractions around the island are easiest to reach by car. Use the arrival details provided before your stay for exact access and parking information.

Space

Look forward to coming home to this oceanfront getaway where you can enjoy swimming in the pool, whipping up a delicious meal on the shared gas grills, walking to the neighboring beach (where you can sometimes spot sunbathing turtles), watching for whales, or just relaxing and uploading photos of your daily adventures via the free WiFi. With a full, well-equipped kitchen, furnished lanai, and easy access to several local attractions, you'll want to come back to this Island Sands condo year after year.

What's nearby:
Walk up to the Maalaea Harbor and shops where you can charter a whale watching or snorkeling boat, spend the day at the Maui Ocean Center (including their new Humpback Whale experience), or get a happy hour drink at SeaScape or Beach Bum's. Just a couple miles south, find a long stretch of beach and calm waters - ideal for trying your hand at stand up paddleboarding. Take a day trip up the oceanfront 'Pali' highway to Lahaina where you can shop, dine, and stroll along Front Street. On the way, stop at the lookout just a few miles up the highway from your condo and either watch for whales or catch the spectacular sunset. Just south, you'll find a four-mile stretch of beach which is a great spot for paddle boarding, walking, and watching for whales.

Convenient location to enjoy either end of island. Good view of ocean. Grills useful. Vacasa quick to respond to initial cleanliness concerns. Condo could use sprucing up w/a coat of paint and some updates—a bit “tired.”
