Neighborhood

The neighborhood:
Hilo moves at a slower pace than the resort side of Hawai'i Island, with banyan trees, frequent rain, and a working-town feel along the bay. Browse the Hilo Farmers Market, stroll Lili'uokalani Gardens, or follow the water toward Rainbow Falls before sampling local treats at Big Island Candies. Hilo Bay offers a calm place to take in the coast, and the drive toward Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park makes an excellent day trip. Stay here for waterfalls, gardens, and the island's lush east-side character.

Nearby attractions:
• Onomea Bay (2 min drive)
• Hawaiʻi Plantation Museum (3 min drive)
• Hāmākua Chocolate Farm (3 min drive)
• Hawaiʻi Tropical Botanical Garden (4 min drive)
• Krishna Cow Sanctuary (5 min drive)
• Hilo Ocean Adventures (10 min drive)
• Hilo Farmers Market (11 min drive)
• Rainbow Falls (14 min drive)
• Akaka Falls State Park (21 min drive)

Transit

Getting around:
Hilo is just about 10 minutes from Hilo International Airport, making it one of the most convenient Big Island bases. A rental car is recommended for reaching Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the lush Hamakua Coast, though downtown Hilo itself is quite walkable, with farmers markets, local shops, and waterfront dining within easy reach on foot. Parking is generally simple, with street spots and small lots nearby.

Although the surrounding area is a bit rough, once in the unit quaint area overlooking a large pool with very nice gardens.

We really liked this unit. It is in a quiet condo complex. The unit is nicely furnished. We were specially looking for something with a kitchenette so we could make meals and this unit was well equipped for the task. It was a short drive from several grocery stores, the beach and was a nice location for exploring the east side of the island. We also enjoyed listening to the tree frogs and birds from the lanai. The unit was very clean.
