Neighborhood

The neighborhood:
Along Ali'i Drive on Kailua-Kona's sunny west coast, Kona Bali Kai gives you an easy rhythm of surf, beach time, and town evenings. Magic Sands Beach Park and Pahoehoe Beach Park are each about a mile away for sand, tide pools, and an ocean dip, while Lyman's surf break is less than a half mile from the complex. Head a couple of miles north to historic Kailua Village for waterfront restaurants, shops, and an evening stroll. It is a strong base for families and couples who want the Pacific close and downtown Kona within easy reach.

Transit

Getting around:
Kona International Airport (KOA) is about 10 to 15 minutes from Kailua Kona. A rental car is recommended for exploring the Kona Coast, although downtown shops, restaurants, and oceanfront Alii Drive may be walkable or a short drive away. Beaches, snorkeling, and groceries are nearby. Parking is generally available at properties or in nearby street and lot spaces.

This incredible stretch of coastline is home to the world-famous Banyan Beach on the south end of the complex, as well as black lava rocks that create tide pools full of marine life and shield the sandy beach. If you follow Ali'i Drive two miles north, you'll come to the heart of Kailua-Kona, passing an assortment of beach parks, surf shops, coffee shops, and eateries on your way.

We had a wonderful time at Kona Bali Kai. We woke to watch the surfers every morning. We were able to watch the dolphins play from our balcony. Fantastic restaurants were just 10 minutes drive away. The pool and hot tub were great. My 18 year old daughter attempted to surf outside and the locals came to her rescue. Kai ( a local surfer) was so generous to offer her lessons the next morning. What a great experience! There was a small issue checking in, but was quickly resolved. It is obvious that the new owner is making many improvements. We read in previous reviews that there was no elevator, but there definitely was one there. We had a good surprise of a cooler for our day trip to volcanoes park. There was only 1 ac unit in the living room. It had no trouble cooling most of the unit including the master. We did need to use fans to help cooling get to the kids bedroom. I would not hesitate to book here again, especially if the owner continues in the same fashion.

The location was perfect as a home base and exploring the island. The small, private beach area is also a bonus! Quiet environment on the top floor. The 6 flights of stairs can be a challenge but we had gotten in shape by the end of our stay and took them more easily.

We stayed for a month at this condo and the view is just everything! Surfers almost every morning and evening depending on the weather! We also very much enjoyed the tide pools in front of the condo which are full of so many fish, eels and even Sea tortoises! The condo is very nicely located close to most everything including the Poke Shack, a small farmer's market on weekends and a bigger one just down the road that is open almost every day. Downtown Kona is a short drive away and many other sights not much farther. The only criticism I would have of this place was the kitchen did not have any basic essentials we have seen at other places we have stayed (S&P, Sugar, some spices, etc) so we had to purchase those for cooking. Also no portable beach chairs. Nice ones on the grounds but none to take along to a beach. We left the ones we purchased. Over all a great place though!! We would stay again!
