Neighborhood

The neighborhood:
Wavecrest’s Molokai setting gives families a quieter way to be in Hawaii. Kaunakakai Town is your practical stop for groceries, casual food, and local shops, while the coast outside keeps the channel views toward Maui and Lanai in the picture. The resort grounds make it easy to build a day around the pool, beach, or a cookout without much planning. When you want to venture out, rural roads lead toward the island’s less developed east end. This is for travelers who value scenery, room to breathe, and time together over big crowds.

What's nearby:
38 miles long and only 10 to 15 miles wide, Molokai is the smallest of the main Hawaiian chain. The west side is arid and dry, and during the winter, the beaches are great for surfing, while summer guests love snorkeling and swimming. The eastern side is lush and tropical with miles of barrier reef in front. Molokai's north side is famous for having the world's highest sea cliffs which rise some 3,000 feet out of the ocean. The 2774-acre Kamakou Forest Preserve on Molokai overlooks these sea cliffs and is home to endangered birds and over 200 Hawaiian plants that grow only in this preserve. Molokai's south side is where you will find our main town of Kaunakakai, plus a handful of tourist and art shops, two full-service grocery markets, a health food store, a bakery, and even a wine and cheese shop. You'll also find some shopping in the villages of Kualapu'u and Maunaloa.

Transit

Getting around:
Molokai Airport (MKK) is about 10 to 15 minutes from Kaunakakai. A rental car is recommended because the island is spread out, though the town center is walkable for local shops, the harbor, and casual dining. Beaches and the scenic east end are farther away by road. Parking is simple and uncrowded, matching the relaxed pace of this quiet island.

The place has so much recreation gear for the guests

The place has so much recreation gear for the guests to enjoy. Love the decor and the comfy furniture. The local rep was extremely helpful. Only thing that needs to be updated is the pool key code… we wrote it on the whiteboard for the next guest. Unfortunately the fan in the living room does not work but we came during a windy time so the cool air flowed in nicely in the unit.
