The house is very good, it is well-equipped and comfortable. The oceanfront location is great. Sit on the lanai and watch the waves crashing into the cliffs, or watch the sun rise over the ocean in the morning. I highly recommend this rental home.

We had a great stay and appreciated the welcome starter kit in the fridge (jug of water, cookies, chocolate). The view and lanai were great places to enjoy morning breakfast. It was also fun to listen to the coquis at night while we had dinner. The bedrooms and living spaces (office, living) were all so comfortable. We didn't cook but we appreciated how well stocked the kitchen was. I am a tea drinker and loved the hot water kettle! We did explore the front yard and was happy to see the view from that vantage point. The water is so blue! If you're a photographer, you'll appreciate the scenic landscape that you can capture. This is a peaceful place and I am glad it was shared with us. We would love to be here again. Mahalo nui loa!

The sound of waves and coquis welcomed us when we arrived in the evening so we didn't see the amazing view until the morning. We certainly were feeling the feels of how amazing the view was and the peacefulness of calm. Getting away from the busy city life was the remedy we needed. Waking up to the sound of waves and zebra doves was amazing. It was fun to see the local birds. The lanai was the place to be but make sure to explore the front yard check out the birds along the bluff. You're gonna say wow!The property is spacious and well maintained. The kitchen is complete with a welcome package of a jug of water, cookies and chocolate in the fridge. It has all you need for cooking or baking. As a tea drinker, thank you for the hot water kettle. There was coffee and creamer to get you started. We did go get our own beans. If you want Kona coffee in the morning, check out Big Island Coffee Roasters. Have them grind a bag for you to make.The bathrooms were comfortable with starter kits shampoo/conditioner/lotion/shower gel. Enough for our group of 3 for 3 days. Being a super smeller, the scents weren't too overpowering. Getting prepared for this trip I did ask if there was any provided because I didn't see it on the details, I received a response pretty quickly.I enjoyed the study with the different books available. I enjoyed looking through the Japanese plant based cookbook. We would love to come back again. Mahalo!

We spent lots of time on the lanai watching the ocean (we saw dolphins and turtles from there!) I definitely recommend listening to the recording of the nighttime frog noises in the listing so you know what to expect because you must sleep with windows open for cooling. Its location is great for lots of different big island adventures: Volcano National Park, Kaumana lava tubes, Akaka Falls park & Kolekole gorge, snorkeling and sea turtles at Richardson Beach Park, black sand Punalu’u Beach.
We even took a day and went over to top-rated Hāpuna beach and Waipi’o Valley—long drive but totally worth it. We took many beautiful photos of each other in this gorgeous yard and on these ocean cliffs! Sunrise is beautiful!

Loved the place and location - beds were comfortable, attic fan was powerful (brought in ocean breeze making nites comfortable), and appliances and grill were pluses. There were just a few minor issues.1) on arrival, the door code was in error. We were able to get to Vacasa and they told us where a backup key was available. 2) they asked about how things were going after arrival, we said the remote tv batteries were dead and I offered to buy new ones. They said no, they would have them dropped off. The next day, they asked if dropping them off the following day was okay, I responded again, and no one came. We’re checking out today. It wouldn’t have been so bad if there was more than one tv or if they said “thanks for my offering to buy new ones, that would be fastest.”3) the network name and password on the welcome card was wrong, But Vacasa listed an alternative.4) we bought bottled water to be safe, as two documents were received. One said don’t drink the filtered water, and another said it’s fine.5) the view is phenomenal, but a caution about safety walking on the lava rock wall might be a reasonable thought.

It is a well-kept property. We really enjoyed the sunrise and the view from the terrace.You do need a car and it is quite far from all amenities, but if you don't mind, it is really a nice place to stay. The beds are comfy, we didnt need aircon, as there was always a breeze, only at night, the mosquitoes can be a little annoying outside, but all windows have mosquitoe nets.Lighting could have been a bit better in the second bathroom, but that is complaining on a high level. We would definitely recommend it for couples.

This was a beautiful spot, right on the ocean and in a very safe and quiet neighborhood. The home was immaculately clean and had plenty of everything we needed. The washer and dryer were a game changer to be able to run a load at the end of the trip. We would defininately return to this exact house.

Lovely home on quiet street. This home is nestled at the back edge of the enormous neighborhood of HPP. It is directly on the ocean cliffs with dramatic views of the ocean. The whole house opens up to let in the cooling breezes and sounds of crashing waves. The home is very well equipped (kitchen, laundry and comfy beds) and lots of privacy but a short drive to grocery stores or downtown Hilo.

We had 4 adults in our group and there was plenty of space for everyone. Bedrooms are a good size, and had plenty of storage for our things. The house was very clean and comfortable. It had everything you would need in a vacation rental. The wifi went out a few times, but that didn't matter. The house did get warm but the house fan did an okay job of cooling. The view and location are what put this house over the top! There is nothing like the waves crashing into the cliff!

Absolutely stunning views of the ocean, porch was a perfect place for sun bathing and meditating. We came to celebrate our engagement. We loved hiking to celebrate the State Shipman Park, swam with turtles at the Shipment park ocean.
Although we loved the privacy, we also enjoyed the local bar and Restaurant with local bands playing on weekends with delicious local foods. I would return to celebrate my anniversary.
The amenities were wonderful, full kitchen to large bathrooms, large living room and a work office space was so nice to have.

Our time here at Hale Kai was a quiet highpoint in an otherwise busy, overfull vacation. The open airiness of this home, its proximity to the water with the wonderful wrap-around porch and the continuing sounds of waves all contributed to restorative and peaceful experience. The home itself is well-equipped for cooking the delicious meals we enjoyed there. The bedrooms are small but quite comfortable. Anything we thought we might need was found. We hope to return someday as it is magical to fall asleep to the rhythmic waves sounds of this home, with wave action thankfully well below the cliff-edge near the front of the house.

The home is welcoming, comfortable, and complete with amenities for your stay. There are plenty of options for activities, exploring the island, beach going, and just about anything you want to do on the Big Island.

The neighborhood was beautiful and the home was very private. The deck overlooking the ocean could not be beat. Highlight was a 2 hour hike on Puna Historic Trail that led to a tiny (very tiny) black sand beach - 5 min drive from the house and took us through a muddy trail that unfolded on the coastline with beautiful views. Would stay at this house again in a heartbeat. Easy check-in / check-out process and no problems whatsoever.

This home was lovely and it's position on the cliff overlooking the ocean was incredible. I spent a great deal of time watching waves and birds. It's away from the crowds but still a reasonable drive from Hilo or the volcanoes national park. We absolutely loved it here and did not want to leave.

This house is incredibly located on the cliffs south of Hilo, and while there is no beach, the waves crashing against the lava cliffs and beautiful sunrises make this place very special. We had a wonderful stay managed by Vacasa. Directions were clear, check in/out process simple and the property was very clean and had all the amenities you may want and then some: boogie boards, snorkeling equipment, binoculars. The outdoor patio is perfect for enjoying a breakfast or dinner and listening to coqui frogs in the nearby jungle. The whole-house fan negated the need for the A/C with all the ocean breezes and cool rain falling daily. Loved our stay, want to go again!

We loved this house and grounds. The house was hot in the afternoons but cooled off at night. Some of doors were tricky to lock and unlock. Due to no street sign, directions to house were hard to follow the first time around.

As soon as you enter the property at Keaau, you realize you are somewhere exceptional. The house is beautifully furnished with a mid-century vibe. The beds are very comfortable, and the kitchen is well equipped. The highlight of the home is the lanai overlooking the Pacific Ocean, an excellent stop for yoga, watching the sunrise, and whales breaching. The property is nestled in a lovely neighborhood but is quite remote, so be sure to bring some breakfast supplies with you for your first night. We spent our days exploring the volcanoes, black sand beaches, waterfalls, gardens, Hilo, and the surrounding area. The house was the perfect place to relax after a busy day and enjoy a BBQ dinner on the lanai—a relaxing vacation.

This property was so cute and had everything we needed for a great stay. Good location on Hilo side which made it easy to do volcano and waterfalls. We loved the lanai and used it everyday. We had great views of the water and even star gazing at night. The furniture in living room was a little small but we really didn’t use it much. The customer service with Vacasa rentals was great.

Great stay, easy home base for Volcano, Hilo, even Waimea as you must get a burger and fries at Village Burger. Loved the front wall of sliding glass doors to sit and enjoy the ocean on the rainier side of the big island.

Had a wonderful stay here at this nice house. It's nothing fancy but was more than adequate. In my humble opinion the peace and quiet (well, except for the frogs at night), the tropical breezes and the wildlife, including a large pod of Spinner's Dolphins feeding just off shore from the house, all added to what can only be described as the perfect Hawaiian vacation. Thank you for allowing us to use this house.

The views are breathtaking. This property easily accommodated our family of 2 grandparents, 2 adults and a super active 8 year old boy. We spent 85% of our time on the spacious lanai enjoying the ocean waves crashing into the lava cliffs.
There were sand toys, a boogie board, reusable grocery bags and a cooler that we made use on our days out exploring the various beaches.
There are a few mosquitos but that didn’t deter us from spending time outside. We explored the cliffs and saw turtles, huge turquoise fish and even an octopus!
We would definitely stay here again. The house has plenty of ceiling fans, floor fans to keep you cool at night. We slept with all the sliding doors open so we could hear the waves crashing and enjoy the ocean breeze.

What an amazing place to stay! It was very clean and had almost everything we needed on hand. We were in awe of the sheer cliffs and crashing waves just past the back yard! It was so nice to be in a peaceful neighborhood surrounded only by the sounds of waves and tree frogs. We couldn’t get enough of the ocean breeze sweeping through the house when we opened the three floor-to-ceiling back doors. The sunrises were a joy to wake up for.
We knew when renting this house that we’d be driving at least 30 minutes to a shoreline in Hilo where we could get into the water, and about two hours to the white, sandy beaches, but none of that detracted from our experience at this beautiful getaway. Would definitely stay here again!

We absolutely LOVED this house and view! The only negative thing that I can say is that there really should be AC units, at least in the bedrooms. Having the sliding doors open during the day kept the house cool, but when they were closed at night, it was pretty warm. Other than that, it was fantastic

Because we were hosting family for thanksgiving dinner, we needed a spacious, well-equipped kitchen. Because we were staying in Hawaii, we needed (ok, wanted) to be near the ocean. This house was perfect in both ways. Only thing lacking was a turkey baster. No surprise there. Beautiful, waterfront neighborhood, expansive view, comfortable beds, newer linens, huge lanai. Great for a family or 3 couples.

Super schönes condo! Sehr sauber und eine schöne ausstattung. Der meerblick ist einzigartig. Man hört die wellen an die klippen schlagen. Nachts hört man die koqui frösche. Ich liebe dieses geräusch, andere stören sich vielleicht daran. Leider mussten wir aufgrund der derzeitigen lage vorzeitig abreisen. Aber ich würde definitiv wieder kommen. Die kommunikation hat anfangs problemlos funktioniert. Eine anfrage zu einem früheren checkin blieb bis heute unbeantwortet. Auch keine reaktion auf meine info das wir verfrüht abgereist sind.. aber checkin etc hat alles funktioniert..

We looked at pictures of this house when we booked and when we arrived it was even better than the pictures described. The house is clean and well stocked. However, the best part of staying at the house was the location! It’s literally right on the ocean! The views from the porch are amazing. The best part is that there is a cute little path from the house leading you right to the ocean cliffs. You sit on the lava rocks and enjoy your coffee and watch the sunrise. If you are on the cliff and look to the left you can see a sea arch! I highly recommend this place!

Everything was perfect ! The beautiful location, the house was equipped with everything to eat and enjoy the pleasures of the beach. Arrival and departure was easy. We were 6 adults. We have breakfast several times while watching the dolphins on the lanai. I would recommend this house without any hesitation.

The view is amazing, we spent most of our time on the lanai where there was a cool on-shore breeze all day. There were only two of us so we had plenty of room. The kitchen had all of the equipment needed and there were some condiments and spices already there so we didn't need to purchase them. The bedrooms were a bit toasty since they were at the back of the house. We used the ceiling fans and portable fans to help with that. When we returned after being out all day, the house was very hot, BUT once the windows and sliding doors were opened, the front room and kitchen cooled off in under 5 minutes! That's how awesome the breeze was. A car is needed since the house is about 10 minutes to the nearest store. It is about 20-30 minutes from Hilo. Loved hearing the frogs at night and birds in the morning!

Hard to beat an oceanfront house to yourself. Listening to the waves crashing never gets old. Dramatic coastline to sit and enjoy. The house is big and very well equipped. It is in a quiet neighbourhood about 20 minutes from Hilo. There are some grocery stores closer than Hilo but not much for food in the immediate area. It is a good place to use as a base for exploring the Eastern part of the island. About 45 minutes to Volcanoes NP and about 1.5 hours to Waipi’o Valley. We enjoyed our stay.

This property has everything you need. Great cooling breezes off the ocean front deck keeps the entire house comfortable and makes for great sleeping. The home has everything you need if you want to cook in and is very well maintained. Thanks to the owners for providing such a great rental.

We had great stay ay Hale Kai. Bed comfortable, kitchen well equipped. We had everything that we needed. Barbecued one night and had nice dinner on lanai overlooking the ocean. Surf was quite spectacular two days due to tropical storm passing north of island. Experienced viewing some very powerful waves. Power went out one night for few hours but found flashlight in kitchen drawer and we enjoyed the mesmerizing sound of waves. Lights came back on and were able to watch our favorite tv programs. Would love to come back again to house. Great, relaxing visit.

We had a wonderful stay at this fantastic spot on the ocean. We listened to the surf in the evenings and mornings during our week long stay. Although it is not a swimming beach, the house is situated so that the entire focus is on the ocean, facing east so you get the morning light. The 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house is spacious, uncluttered and oh so bright! Coming from Canada in the winter, the light is welcome. The furnishings are tasteful and understated. The kitchen is bright, spacious and there are adequate utensils and appliances. We appreciated all the windows throughout the house. We loved the location and especially the large lot, with swaying coconut palm trees. Thank you for a great holiday. Chris and Marg Parfitt

We had a wonderful, relaxing stay in this amazing setting. It was a drive to get there, but well worth it! We could see the glow from the lava flow and the water views were spectacular! The home was super clean and came with many extras. We used the ponchos for the boat tour and didn’t have to purchase them. We even used the BBQ one night. I would recommend this place to families with older children that don’t need to be constantly entertained since it is somwhat remote and no pool or beach access nearby. Loved our stay! Would definitely stay again if ever in Hilo.

Restful home with a stunning view out over the ocean, and we were excited to spot dolphins one day. Handy to Hilo and Volcano. The owners have prepared a great guide to the area, which we found useful. We enjoyed our stay at Hale Kai and felt very lucky to have landed there.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 night stay. We watched the sunrise each morning sitting on the lanai. We were treated to spinner dolphins the first morning!
Loved waking to bird song and the sound of surf.
The drive into Hilo took 30-40 minutes depending on traffic (try to avoid rush hour if you are here during the week). The house was clean, well maintained and stocked with everything we needed for our stay. (We shopped for groceries at the KTA in Hilo).
Multiple fans and large screened windows kept us cool.
There were just two of us, but the house would comfortably accommodate 6.
We have always loved Hilo, still do even more, and hope to return soon.
I wish I could give it a 10 star!

This home is amazing..pictures do not do it justice! Home was spacious and clean, beds comfortable, plenty of beach supplies, views were amazing, home had plenty of outside areas, including covered porch. This home was a great value, you will not be disappointed!

We rented Hale Kai because of the ocean views. Watching the waves from the deck was a highlight. The house was clean and had all the amenities we needed. It's not fancy, but if you want a decent affordable place close to the Volcanoes National Park and at the water's edge, this is a great option!

The property was wonderful! Ocean views, smells and sounds at the door step. As advertised, the neighborhood is very quiet so while there are neighbors you won't know it. Home was clean and well maintained. The 'beach supplies' (towels, chairs, etc) were wonderful to have on hand.

I am going to the Big Island since 10 years now and this was the fifth time I stayed in a rental house in the Haiwaii Paradise Park. In the 10 years I am going there not much has changed, it's still the laid back ,non touristy part of the Island. The house we stayed this time was spot clean, a very big functional kitchen with everything you need. The veranda around the house is right at the ocean and I live sleeping to the sound of the waves. We barbecued every night, good service that the gas bottle for the barbecue got changed within hours after we called. Actual the only thing we missed in the house was an umbrella. It rains a lot on the Hilo side, so you need one .

We absolutely loved it. Such a gorgeous view and the house is just as special. So incredibly clean, open and bright. The neighborhood is wonderful, and the road the house is on is perfect for walking each morning. Everyone's so friendly and it was just the best stay! The property management was exceptional in communication and we overall had a wonderful experience!
The only thing we would suggest is more comfortable living room furniture. The couch and chairs were really hard/firm - if that were replaced, it would be perfect!

This is a great property. We almost always rent homes when we travel and this is one of the best units we have stayed at. It is a well-built home with a great design. From the deck there is a spectacular view of the water, which the pictures don't do justice. The living area is open and spacious. It comfortably accommodated our diverse party of four and could have handled six without a problem. Kitchen has all the necessary features. Another plus is a small open office that looked out on to the ocean, but is set back so I could work but still have a great view.The beds were comfortable and the bedrooms were quiet. Also the place was immaculate when we arrived. The location is great. Close enough to Hilo and also Pahoa and other small towns. Great secluded roads for running, and just .3 of mile down the road is access to a trail where you can hike along the coastline for miles.

The house was nicely located next to the oceans. We could see whales passing by in the morning. The house was very efficient in its amenities. The only bad side is that it is located far from Hilo and from any shop.
