Ideal Makai Golf Course location, 2 primary suites plus loft, ocean view & AC
Space
High on a cliff in Princeville, a prime neighborhood in the heart of Kauai’s North Shore, Hale On'tariō is perfectly situated for an active, outdoor vacation or a laid-back retreat. This home is located on the sixth hole of the Makai Golf Course and enjoys stunning, panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and the Bali Hai Mountains. Hale On'tario has been recently refreshed with new carpet, while the air conditioning system has been updated (August 2019) to include splits in all the bedrooms and an extra one in the living room.
Hale On'tario is a relaxed choice for couples, families, or friends who want to unwind in an ocean view home and enjoy Kauai’s many charms and adventures. You can gather in the great room with floor to ceiling windows and enjoy a 60-inch flatscreen 4K TV with cable, Apple TV, and a wide assortment of movies, games, and books. The house supports portable music by cable or with Bluetooth speakers.
There are two master bedrooms on the main floor and a loft bedroom – each with a private bathroom and air conditioning. The loft has another flatscreen TV, two full-size beds, and a trundle bed with two single mattresses. There is a separate office in the loft with a Windows 7 PC, free WiFi, and a laser printer that can scan and copy documents. Window coverings and powerful ceiling fans help keep things cool and private.
There is a well-equipped galley kitchen designed for easy meal preparation. The dining table seats eight and a large Weber propane gas grill is available. You can dine al-fresco on the screened-in porch that features a colorful garden view, and catch the sunset or enjoy the beautiful indigo moods of the ocean over morning coffee on the lanai.
Located where albatross birds nest from November to July, and within walking distance of the surf breaks at Hideaways Beach, the lively nightlife at the Hanalei Bay Resort, the brand new shuttle (2019) to the Napali Coast, and Princeville’s popular multi-use trail, Hale On'tariō is an exceptionally convenient vacation home. Anini Beach, Hanalei, and the Kilauea Lighthouse are minutes away by car. World-class snorkeling and hiking are within easy reach.
Kauai is paradise and we want you to live here in comfort and make unforgettable memories.

Awesome physical location. that alone makes it worth staying here.

Awesome physical location. that alone makes it worth staying here. property is a little shabby. The photographs of the listing oversell it. But it's fine of.you want the location which is unbeatable. The kitchen faucet was broken and only sprayed water. one of the AC units in a bedroom didn't work. not enough large coffee mugs. the ariel shot of the house shows no properties next to the house. that is not accurate. there are properties on both sides.
Absolutely loved this property

We went to Kauai for a week and loved this house. The location is absolutely serene, being on the golf course added the green and next to the ocean added the blue.
Walking distance to 1 HOTEL and Hideaway Beach.
When we came the house was neat and clean with a nice welcome basket. It was well stalked with basic items.
There were many Albatros laying eggs near the house.
All in all loved my time here.
House was great, in a great location and beautiful views.

We loved the serenity & privacy of the place and the light that comes in through the large windows, great view on the golf course, short walk via the golf course to see the sunset on the cliffs in the evenings. neighborhood is lovely and quiet, close to Westin for a coffee in the mornings from their Starbucks cafe and great location to travel around the island and go for runs in the mornings.
The house has ample space, 2 very good sized bedrooms and the attic for additional guests. There are plenty of aircon units and fans.
Fabulous location and views

Perfect place for our family of 7!
Trevor G. · Jul 2025
Honestly everything was great. The location, the AC, the communication, ease of Che k in and check out. The house is beautiful and right next to queens bath and a 10 min drive to town. We have 5 kids and they all loved it. They fed the geese and chickens every morning that wander around the golf course:) really though I can’t recommend this place enough. It was perfect. We want to go back lol

beautiful location overlooking the 7th hole of Macai golf course. House was spacious and nicely decorated. Equipped with many convenient home appliances, washer/dryer, beach towels. Very comfortable for all of us.
Stunning Views!

We stayed here with another family we LOVED it! Honestly it was even better than expected and I expected it to be awesome. The beds were SO comfortable with great bedding. The kitchen was shockingly well stocked. The living room is all windows and has STUNNING views of the golf course, mountains and water. A baby albatross was nested right out side the back patio. Great walking trails throughout the area. Literally around the corner from the Queens Bath trailhead (though closed currently). Fun loft for kiddos. Awesome assortment of beach toys, chairs, boogie boards, etc. Even laundry. We hope to keep coming back. Thank you!

2 family getaway
ANGELA · May 2023
this house was a real treat for us, a splurge, to show-off kauai to our friends. it perfectly fit the 2 families and was very comfortable the whole time. 3 of the a/c units needed to be reset multiple times but with the weather as it was, i only had them come once to fix, which they did. other than arming the guests with the ability to maintain their function, vacasa did a great job servicing the home and ensuring it was ready for our stay. beautiful house, amazing view, would prefer to stay longer than we did!
beautiful view

The open windows allow so much light into the house. View of the sunset was awesome.
Wonderful Stay
ELIZABETH K. · Jan 2023
Our group of 6 adults and 1 infant very much enjoyed our stay at Hale Ontario. The house is located on a golf course with wonderful views of the ocean. Each night we walked the very short distance to watch the unset and we weren't alone as this seems to be an event everyone comes out for. There are paved trails to walk or run-on if you enjoy the early morning cool before it gets to warm. The house was roomy, clean and comfortable. We had an issue with the Wifi, but it was fixed immediately upon our report of it. There were plenty of beach towels and 3 beach chairs that we used every day we went to the beach. Also some snorkeling gear, coolers and beach toys. We would definitely stay here again and are so glad we made the choice of Hale Ontario. Thank you for making it available!
Warm, inviting home.

Hale On'tario is a beautiful home ideally situated on the Makai golf course. The home has literally everything you could need including an exceptionally well-stocked kitchen, washer/dryer, and beautiful living room with a view of the mountains and ocean. The deck is lovely for sitting and watching the nesting albatross and a plethora of colorful birds that drop in. The owners have thought of everything and we loved every minute of our stay. The property management was very helpful and responded promptly to any questions. You have the beach down the road which is about a 15-minute walk and the lovely town of Hanalei is only a 10-minute drive. Highly recommend this lovely property!

What is beautiful view of the ocean and mountains! The home was very clean with comfortable bedding, linens and housewares including basic supplies. All we needed was to buy Kleenex along with our chosen food and beverages. The one glitch is that the upstairs loft bedroom is sweltering hot even with the AC on full blast. Just re-locating the unit on the adjacent wall higher up may solve the issue or replacing this older unit altogether. One minor inconvenience is that the Wi-Fi signal goes in and out on occasion. Finally, there was construction noise directly next-door with a condo renovation which was not conveyed at all. The construction at the house on the other side did not disturb us. Overall we enjoyed our stay complete.

Just a perfect location on the north shore for our stay. The house is very thoughtfully appointed and easy to find things/make things work. comfortable beds too! We loved all the different ways to manage temperature in the house - letting in more or less sun / more or less outside air and turning on AC if necessary. The Albatrosses were a highlight for us! We got to see a baby Albatross on the next just between the house and the 7th hole tee, by the mangroves. That is a once in a lifetime experience. We'd recommend Hale On'tario to anyone.

We stayed at Hale Ontario for about 2 weeks. It's unique location on the Makai Golf course and high ceilings provided us with the most amazing views covering golf, mountain, ocean and sky. Most evenings we walked to the cliffs to watch the sunset and even saw whales breaching and fluking along the coast. Being walking distance to Queen's Bath is another perk of this home's location.
Would go here again!

My family and I wanted to “getaway” to Princeville and we're glad we found this home! Stellar Napali Coast views, comfy furniture and a very short walk to a lookout point over Queen’s Bath and Hideaways! Quick access to the Princeville trail gets you anywhere you want to go.
We travel and rent homes frequently, so we were pleased to find a very well stocked and accurately described property. From a ton of beach equipment to decent tools and extra lightbulbs…this place has what you need. There was even two coffee makers so we could have caff and decaf ready to go every morning.
Rachel and the Vacasa staff were fantastic!

Coreen O. · May 2021
Overall we loved being here. The view is awesome and walked to the end of the 6th hole for yoga two mornings and sunset two nights. House had plenty of room for the 5 of us. Only negative is the construction next door during the day and partial blocking of view and the loft gets warm. We walked to Queen’s Bath a few houses away and did a lot on the north side. Just have to manage the Hanalei road closure times during the weekdays. The resource guide they have is amazing yet slightly outdated with Covid closures. All in all an amazing place to stay.
Beautiful view
Zachary H. · Apr 2021
Very nice and clean home with plenty of space for our family of 5. Convenient location in Princeville. Views from the living room are amazing with beautiful sunsets. Overall we had a really great time here.
FYI — New home construction directly next door started the week we were there, which unfortunately includes a high green construction fence adjacent to the lanai and somewhat disrupts the ocean views. I suspect the construction noise will be a bother during the day. We were gone during the daytime and other than the ugly fence, didn’t have an issue. If you are planning to spend your day relaxing on the lanai, the fence and construction will likely be a bother. Home owners may have additional info in timing of the construction. Even with this construction, we would stay here again.

The travertine tile is beautiful the kitchen is awesome love the large windows in the living room area upstairs is perfect for kids. The house is overall very functional. Reviewer Comments:
We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 nt stay at Hale On'tario house. It was comfortable and roomy and located in the lovely Princeville neighborhood along the 6th fairway with wonderful views. There are 2 ground floor ensuite king bedrooms plus a spacious ensuite loft bedroom that could sleep 4-5 children. (Be aware that the sound from people walking heavily in the loft does travel down into the master bedroom). It's a superior location for all your North Shore activities and sightseeing (although some of the trails, beaches and roads were still closed due to the devastating floods of April). The popular and challenging trail down to Queen's Bath is just 2 minutes down the street. Use caution because after recent rains it becomes a muddy, slippery slope! It's also about a 2 hr drive to Waimea Canyon where we did the recommended Cliff Trail hike. For golfers, Princeville Makai is a must, but we also really enjoyed Puahea Golf Course down near Lihue Airport. At $65, it's a real bargain. We spent most evenings in the cute nearby town of Hanalei and enjoyed The Hanalei Gourmet; Kalypso and Bar Acuda. With everything lush and green, this is the Hawaii we all picture in our minds!

The house was perfect for our family of 6! It had all the amenities for a very comfortable stay. The kitchen was fully stocked with all that was needed to cook our meals there. The house also had everything we needed for a great day at the beach (beach chairs, mats, umbrellas, boogie boards, beach towels). Great location with a lot of walking/running paths. Would highly recommend this place for others.

The Hale Ontario house was perfect for me and my family! I brought my family of 4, my parents, and my best friend so the 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms was just what we needed to have our own space to rest and/or get cleaned up to go out. The lanai and indoor dining area provided comfy areas to eat together. The open concept kitchen and living room made it easy to spend time together when cooking. The clear view of the mountains and ocean was breathtaking to wake up to everyday. The house was stocked with all the amenities we needed and more! We especially enjoyed the fresh flower arrangement and the scented soaps. We would definitely stay at the Hale Ontario again and highly recommend it to others who are looking for a relaxing retreat in Kauai.

Thank you so much for sharing your lovely home: it exudes relaxation and a wonderful family feeling. Loved the location as it is very private and not right on the street, with views that are postcard perfect...many evenings were spent sipping wine and watching the glorious sunsets. The design and furnishings are beautiful but not stuffy, perfect for the North Shore. The kitchen was wonderfully stocked with excellent cookware and spices…with this fabulous home you might not want to eat out! The beds were super comfortable and the owners have thought of everything you might need for a beach vacation…beach towels, Tommy Bahama chairs, umbrellas, a cooler, beach toys, BBQ…and two bikes with locks. (Dad would drop us at the beginning of the trails for Hideaways and Sea Lodge and bike back…) Another lovely aspect of our stay was the local management company the owners chose. Bali Hai greeted us with a lovely note and flower arrangement and called to check on us. When we had a little problem with water, they were right on it. (Christine and her colleagues from Bali Hai Realty were amazing….) We plan to return…mahalo nui loa!
Beautiful views!

Amazing view, nobody next to you so feels very private, perfect for our family of 6 with 3 bedrooms and 3 full baths, AC works great, they have beach chairs and towels available to use, and the 2 bikes were fun to ride down the coast towards the St. Regis at sunset. No issues to report, we really enjoyed our stay!

We have been coming to Kauai for over 40 years so we know the island well and know what constitutes an superb vacation rental versus and average one. Hale Ontario is one of the top places we have ever stayed. This home is tucked away on a quiet street in Princeville and commands one of the most spectacular views in the area. The morning and evening ocean and Bali Hai panaromas through the massive windows are truly inspiring. It is located within minutes to grocery shopping, Hanalei town and beach and is walking distance to Queens Bath. We enjoyed evening strolls under the stars right in front of the house down to the cliffs overlooking the ocean. The home itself was immaculate with pletnty of room for our family to spread out. The large family room and kitchen (very well stocked with everything we needed) was great as we gathered for meals. There is a two car garage with bikes and beach gear. There are many homes in Princeville that have not endured well. This home is not one of them. The owners have kept it in excellent condition with everything appearing new and functional. We love Princeville and Hanalei and would come back to Hale Ontario again without hesitation. We would also like to put in a plug for Bali Hai Real Estate Company. This is the group that manages the property. They were awesome! We always arrive late in the evening and their help getting us settled has always been unparalleled. They have an easy to use App and they are personally available to answer questions and solve problems. They are good people sincerely concerned that your needs are met and your stay is memorable. We also really like the fact that they are local and have been here for many years. Some management companies are based far away and deal with problems through disinterested subcontractors. Bali Hai people live here and they are devoted to the community. Thanks for a great trip!

We really enjoyed our stay at this property. The view from the living room was breathtaking. Everything we needed was there, including all the accessories for the beach. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked. The property was very clean. Our only suggestion would be to put a dresser in the first bedroom off the entry way.

The house was perfect for us and we loved that we had views of both the water and the mountains. The whole house was very clean and the décor fresh and inviting. So glad there was air conditioning! We loved the kitchen with all of the new appliances and cookware. Really appreciated that we could use the barbecue and beach toys and that the garage was empty so we could park the car inside. We also really enjoyed the large screen TV and the awesome Bluetooth speakers in both the living room and the kitchen. The screen porch was also a nice place to hang out when it was raining. The property management company couldn't have been better. Loved the beautiful flowers and welcome note. Probably should have used them more... asked for more ideas of what to do or where to go. Only thing we had a problem with was the ice maker. It did not make very much ice. Super, super house!
Views that just don't quit!

Lovely stay. Jannell and Lisa were great on the front end, and were totally responsive when we had a couple of issues at the house. House was spotlessly clean and had lovely little gifts and special touches upon arrival. Very spacious, comfortable house. The location and views are amazing. Better than pictured. We could see all the hard work/renos that the new owners are doing. Nice, upscale beachy vibe. On our wish list - - 1)really need more outdoor furniture. Currently only chairs for two. What if there are 2-3 couples? Would really appreciate a table/chairs on deck, which would help with the seating issue. 2) We feel the 2nd BR needs to have A/C like the other rooms. 3) some of the (beautiful) bushes had grown so high that they blocked the ocean view when sitting on the deck loungers. We would love to return with guests...especially if these small issues were addressed. Had a wonderful stay!

This house was absolutely amazing! Spacious and an the best location we could have asked for. Loved the neighborhood. We were told that the house is located on the best hole of the entire golf course and I believe it. It was nice to walk to the edge of the cliff and see Queens Bath down below. We had all of the amenities we needed and loved eating out on the lanai each morning. It was truly what made our vacation so great.

Our time at Hale On'tario was stellar. The house is situated perfectly for morning light and excellent sunsets. The kitchen is well stocked with cookery and dishes and our dinners were far better than if we'd gone to the St. Regis. Beds were very comfortable and of course there's always a ton to do and on the best days nothing we had to do. Thanks so much. We'll be coming back.
Spectacular views, comfort and family memories at Hale On‘tariō in Princeville (North shore), Kauai
Mar 2016
We have recently returned from a week-long stay on Kauai's north shore where we had what has been described as our "best family vacation ever!"
From activities that range from healthful walks on the trails circling the golf course and yoga at dawn at Princeville to vigorous 8 hour mountain trekking to waterfalls, there is a great breadth of modes of recreation and fitness. With breath-taking scenery everywhere...from watching Moses, the very neighbourly albatross who, with his young family, resides in the backyard while the hatchlings acclimate to waves breaking on picturesque beaches, passing pods of whales and sunsets in Waimea canyon, we were constantly reminded of the island's charms.
The main advantage of this property, Hale On‘tariō, is that it puts one in the middle of all of the above. Under new ownership, the house has just been upgraded, notably the kitchen and second bathroom. There are three lovely bedrooms, which worked perfectly for our family of six adults, and a large common room, fully wired for audio and visual entertainment. A BBQ stored in the garage was useful and, apart from one notable evening out, we made use of the kitchen to prepare our own meals. The bed my wife and I shared was possibly the largest and most comfortable bed I have ever slept in and I am 62.
All in all, I would not hesitate to rate this experience a perfect 5/5 and offer a complete and unreserved endorsement.
Stunning Golf Course Location with Ocean and Sunset Views
Ruth M. · Mar 2016
Wonderful family vacation home with stunning Bali Hai sunset views across Makai Golf Course! It provided everything we needed and more! Our family was completely comfortable in the two private master suites downstairs, perfect for two couples, and the large bedroom loft upstairs where our teenage kids and their cousins hung out. Besides playing golf, we also enjoyed the many walking trails in Princeville and the nearby shopping center and excellent restaurants. Can’t wait to come back and stay at Hale Ontario again!
Perfect house all around. Highly recommended. A++ rental.
