The location is amazing. You can sit and watch the ocean all day, crashing surf creating rainbows in the waves, from the amazing deck. The photo doesn't do it justice - you are right on the sea.Also the interior is brilliant. Yes, no AC, but it really doesn't matter - I don't like the heat but there is so much ocean breeze and fans everywhere.

We stayed in Hale Aikalani for five days and couldn't be happier with our time at the property. The home is stunningly situated on the ocean on the east side of the big island, and we spent many hours sitting on the lovely deck and watching the blue waves crash onto the basalt. The house provides a good base to explore the volcano and Hilo side of the island; we also did a Mauna Kea tour and that was easy to get to. Besides a gorgeous setting, the house is very well-stocked with cook- and serve ware; 2 refrigerators (one in the garage); a closet of water toys; W/D; DVD player and movies; a garage for your rental car; and a deep overhang on the back deck which enables activity when it is raining (if not too hard). A truly lovely home.

The deck, the location right on the waters edge, and THE VIEW!!! Pods of dolphins swimming by in the mornings, distant rainstorms in the evenings. The outdoor dinning table under the expansive overhang kept us dry and able to enjoy our meal. The stargazing was out of this world from out there as well. Thought the Coqi frogs might have been an issue after reading the reviews but we loved them and miss hearing there voices now were gone. Not sure if the description mentions it but there is beach gear, and sundries like oil, and rice which were both a heartfelt surprise. As well as many homey touches like the kukui nut lei, the hand rolled beach towels, games, puzzles and decor throughout. This was our first Vacasa experience and it was all so easy they’ve won over our business. From the touchless entry and hands off arrival & checkout the toilet paper flower in the half bath. Friendly neighbors on one side and no one at home the 5 nights we were there. Quiet property at the end of the road with garage the sounds of the ocean waves lulling you to sleep. Surprisingly there were many local fishers casting off the formidable 10ft lava cliffs most nights and all night one night. Was fun to watch them casting with glowing lures. Location was easy to come and go exploring Pahoa, Puna, the east rift zone, Volcanoes NP and Hilo. Would highly recommend Nings Thai restaurant in Pahoa, so good and super spicy if you like that which I do we had to go a couple times! Could not have

Location is amazing. The patio sitting on the waters edge was a delight, and watching the turtles from there after a day at the beach was a perfect nightcap.
No a/c was tough with the heat this month, only thing that made it tough for a few hours in the afternoon/evening. Otherwise a great house.

We absolutely loved the view! Watching and listening to the waves as they crashed against the rocks was both calming and overwhelming at the same time. One member of our party had physical challenges so accessibility was a concern; however, the bedroom and en-suite bathroom on the first floor was more than accommodating. This was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable vacations we’ve had!

Beautiful spot, house is large, nicely furnished and decorated with a well stocked kitchen and other amenities.
In a residential neighborhood, very friendly atmosphere and pleasant area to walk around. Pahoa is a quiet town, has a nice new grocery market and a few fun places to go out to eat or drink. We saw tons of whales go by from the lanai and enjoyed short day trips to Hilo and Volcano.

It is a clean and spacious house right beside the ocean. We appreciate the gorgeous ocean view and the holiday cookies from the host. The instructions for check in and check out are clear. We rented a car at the airport and drove to Hawaii Volcanos National Park (one hour driving), Kua Bay (two hours), and Maura Kea (less than two hours).

We woke up every morning to the sunrise & fell asleep every night to the waves crashing and frogs croaking. The house was well stocked for everything you could need -- from beach toys/chairs, to pack-n-play, and all the kitchen accessories. The Puna Coast isn't for everyone (we've been before, and LOVE IT) --- it's off the beaten path, but Pahoa Town is super cute, friendly and has some really fun food options. Not too far from Hilo or Volcanoes.

This vacation rental was fantastic. It had everything we needed, plus some. The neighborhood was great and the views were spectacular. We truly enjoyed our stay and the property management company made the process easy. The home comes with many extras, like board games, ice chests, water bottles, beach chairs, beach towels, pack-in play, and more. It really was perfect for us. We look forward to staying at this home again!

I have never stepped into a rental and been blown away. I had to check that I had the correct place, as it was so much nicer than the already beautiful pictures. Right on the water, you can actually feel the sea spray. The home is immaculate and very open. I couldn’t believe the quality for an affordable price.

My family of four adults (2 elderly) stayed here for 4 days as our Hilo homebase (we previously stayed 4 days on the Kona side in another property). The house itself is exactly as advertised--huge, airy, comfortable, and with a view that must be seen to believe. We appreciated having use of the garage to park our rental car in, and the size and layout of the house suited our needs with comfortable beds and hot showers (and the half bath downstairs was a great convenience). The management company for this house was Vacasa, and during our stay there was a power outage--they were very responsive in picking up the phone and investigating the outage (turned out to be neighborhood wide and short lived), and after the fact they followed up by text as well. Only two cons--when we arrived, there was a note about the refrigerator needing servicing (the freezer worked fine). A mini fridge had been left for us in lieu--we would have appreciated some heads up notice because that influenced our grocery shopping. (they offered to have the repairman come by during our stay but we declined because by then we only had 1 more day left). And the location of the house is less than ideal, being about 15 minutes away from the closest grocery store and 40 minutes-hour from Hilo depending on traffic. Otherwise, we had a great stay.

Stayed here with my husband and 2 adult sons. House was clean and modern with spacious well stocked kitchen. Beds were comfortable. Both of my sons slept in the bedrooms upstairs and they both reported getting warm in the middle of the night even with the windows open. My husband and I slept downstairs with the windows open and were very comfortable --plus you can hear the waves lull you to sleep! The view from the deck is outstanding! We were able to eat breakfast at the table out there one morning and it was sunny, breezy and absolutely perfect ! The location of this house is remote from grocery stores, restaurants etc. So we cooked breakfast and dinners here and ate out during afternoons. It is about a 50 min drive to Volcano National Park. We made this drive back and forth 3 different times which was kind of a drag but the accommodations and the exceptional views were worth it!

I don’t usually take the time to write reviews, but this house deserves it. Water views are unbelievable. Plenty of room. Very clean. Great quality-constructed house (which we are are very picky about). We could pull right into the garage. It was fabulous having a washer/dryer available. Very quite location. Soft bath towels. My only complaint would be either there was no cable package to watch tv, or we couldn’t figure it out.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The views from inside the house and out on the deck were spectacular, and we were treated to amazing sunrises and even glowing sunsets. The house was very clean, comfortable and well decorated. The quality of furniture, appliances, and kitchen supplies was great. We had everything we needed and loved having the gas range and nice cookware. It was an incredibly relaxing, quiet, and peaceful place; I could have stayed a much longer and would definitely like to come back sometime.

This was a beautiful house with the deck was overlooking the ocean. It’s a great house if you are just there to relax and unwind! It is kind of off the beat and path. You definitely have to have a car! Don’t go to Hilo from 9:30-1030 am because there is a lot of traffic! There are many things to see on the Hilo side but some activities are pretty far from Pahoa. However the house is in a quiet neighborhood. You hear the crashing of the waves on the rocks! There are many birds that sing at night! If you don’t mind driving a bit then this house is perfect!

My wife and I have stayed at Carolyn's property several times as my work brings me to the Big Island frequently. The house has never failed to be 100% clean and stocked, and this time was no different. Would that all owners that rent out on VRBO were as conscientious as Carolyn and her "Second in Command", Melissa. Great communication and we even picked up some artwork this time! (Melissa and her partner, Ron, have created some beautiful pieces that adorn the walls of the house interior, fortunately some are for sale).

We had a wonderful stay at Carolyn’s home in Pahoa. The location is absolutely fantastic. We loved listening to the sounds of the waves crashing so close. Her home is also so perfectly clean. Communication was easy and thorough with the caretaker, Melissa. She was always available to answer questions via text. We appreciated her recommendations for things to do around the area. We really enjoyed Kaleo’s restaurant in Pahoa. The several house rules were a bit intimidating at first, but the expectations are all reasonable. No AC was not an issue for us with the ceiling fans on and windows open. We would highly recommend Carolyn’s house! It was a great location for spending an entire day at Volcano National Park and other attractions like the black sand beach, Akaka Falls, and Rainbow Falls. We would not hesitate to stay here again!

My family of 4, my mom and MIL all stayed here for 4 nights beginning of April. A little worried about no AC (husband is high maintenance) - but the temp in the house was great because we had a constant breeze from the ocean. Went to sleep every night listening to the waves crash in. Everyone in our party loved the house and the views. Melissa, the caretaker was very responsive to text messages and very helpful. It's about a 30-35 minute drive to Hilo downtown, so keep in mind, you'll be driving if you want to do in-town activities. Only downside I had, there's a beautiful kitchen table that takes water stains easily (Koa wood I believe) and they ask you to use coasters and with an 8 year old, I was constantly trying to keep track of where she was sitting her water glass - so that caused a little angst (as I didn't want to incur a potential damage charge). This was minor compared to the overall experience in the house - which was great.

Rules and policies before the stay kind of came in waves, made it seem quite strict, but in the big picture all the expectiations are reasonable.
The house is very very clean, lots of amenities, and literally sits on a cliff - the views are quite wonderful. The weather for us (in Feb) was sunny one day rainy another day and something in between the rest of the days. But the views can be enjoyed from inside too, so it's all good! Ceiling fans everywhere make lack of AC no big deal. Great kitchen and dining room (love that Koa wood table). Living room couches/ chair are comfy - no cable or satelite TV, but luckily we have multiple subscriptions to online services (Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney+) which worked great. Internet is reliable. Bedrooms are nice, comfy, and high quality - master bedroom, closet, bathroom all very spacious. Use of the garage (incl washer/dryer) is a great luxury.
Caretaker Melissa is beyond helpful and informative - super appreciated being able to text with her. Gave us great info on looking for whales from the deck (which we saw!) and on visiting Volcanos.
Neighborhood is very quiet, a bit out of the way (takes about 20min to get out to the main Hwy), which is both a blessing (seclusion) and a curse (for touristing about). Do what we did and spend at least one day just enjoying the house/view - so worth it.
Only suggestion would be some sort of lounge chair for the deck. Hard to be extra lazy out there with regular chairs, hahaha.
Oh also, d/t COVID19 they can't stock the panty with "community" supplies that are usually seen in house rentals. So if you're gonna do any cooking, don't forget the little things ya might need - cooking oil, condiments, etc.

We can’t say enough good things about our stay at this property. You won’t find a place with a better view near Pāhoa- we watched the waves for hours each day and were lucky to see whales close in, turtles, and a swell with waves powerful enough to shake the house. There is a wonderful deck to enjoy, but the views are just as stunning from the kitchen, dining area, and living area. At night, be sure to step out and enjoy the bright stars as well.
The house itself is lovely. The beds in every room are incredibly comfortable with high quality bedding. Kitchen has everything you need for meals and serving. Layout was perfect for our family with two teenagers in tow - everyone had their own space. The laundry in the garage was convenient and the washer and dryer were new and worked wonderfully. Wi-fi was strong and reliable throughout our stay, so it was easy to work and for the teens to do schoolwork.
Melissa and Carolyn were great with pre-stay communications and making sure we were settled in. Genuine Aloha. And much Mahalo.
The property itself is in a friendly, quiet neighborhood. There is a lovely walk along the shoreline with two small parks. The new black sand beach formed from the 2018 lava flow is a short drive and hike- and we visited it several times. Day trips to Volcanos (went to see the lava glow!) and other beaches/hikes on the island were easy with beautiful scenery along the way.
We will be back!

Very clean home on the ocean outside of Pāhoa. Both Carolyn, the owner, and Melissa, the property manager, were great to work with and very responsive. We spent 4 nights in this location as a base point to explore the Hilo side of Hawai’i with a focus on Volcanoes National Park. Driving time the the NP was close to 60 minutes, to Hilo about 30. Very nice grocery store in Pāhoa and did enjoy a great meal at Kaleo’s in Pāhoa. Close the the 2018 lava flows if exploring that area is an interest. Nice to have a secure garage to park in and found the master bedroom bed to be very comfortable. All in all, a good stay!

Our stay here was extremely enjoyable! The house was clean and comfortable. The house is well stocked with kitchen utensils. The views of the ocean and coastline from the lanai are amazing. We spent most of our time at the house, out on the deck. We saw dolphins swimming by on multiple days.
Melissa, the caretaker, met us upon our arrival. Not only did she introduce us to what we needed at the house, but local options for food, and sightseeing, Her knowledge of the area enhanced our daily excursions. Both Melissa and Carolyn, the owner were extremely responsive to our questions prior to and during our stay.
We definitely would stay here again and highly recommend this house!

This was possibly the most beautiful VRBO we’ve stayed in. The sound of the ways right outside made the stay special. It was a little way from Hilo but had a lot around it also. Note that there is not air conditioning, but location, windows, and the ceiling fans were sufficient to keep it nice and cool. Melissa provided some truly enjoyable suggestions. This is one location we would gladly rent again

The house was located in a quiet neighborhood overlooking the enchanting ocean. The furnishings were comfortable and the house very clean. It was well equipped with cooking needs, and had many extra supplies such as spices, cooking oil, plastic wrap, coolers, etc.
Upon our arrival, Melissa greeted us and went over the house etiquette. She provided us with maps and local insight about the area, sights to see, and how to access various points of interest. One of the best insights she provided was about the new local trail over the recent lava flows. We would never have known it was there, and the hike turned out to be one of the highlights of our!
The location of the house was near many restaurants and stores, including a grocery store. It was very peaceful to hear the ocean waves crashing over the rocks. Games and other amenities (beach chairs, umbrellas, etc. were provided for our enjoyment?
This house was a great place and did not disappoint us!

The property was clean and nicely appointed. Views of the ocean and coast were extraordinary. This is a wonderful location on the northeast coast. One negative, it is a little hot and humid this time of year, so without air conditioning the upstairs bedrooms were a bit uncomfortable in the evening and at night until they could cool off toward the morning. Otherwise, the perfect house for a Hawaiian Island stay.

The property manager, Melissa Knott, was very helpful. The property was very clean and instructions on care were clear. The view was spectacular! We loved getting up in the morning and having our coffee on the lanai. The location was fine for our needs. The only suggestion I have is to put an additional standing fan in the twin bed room upstairs. Overall, our stay was wonderful!!!

We really enjoyed the Pahoa oceanfront house as a balance to our trip after spending 6 days in Kona. It was great to be in a more local area of the island - we found multiple very interesting hikes, many with small quaint beaches as part of them in the area using our “All trails” app. Kaleo’s local restaurant is fine dining in a small town. The house is beautiful and very well maintained, can’t get closer to the ocean and in a quaint neighborhood. There is a small grocery store in Pahoa 8 miles away. Close to Volcano National Park. Melissa is a wealth of knowledge and Carolyn provides you with an itinerary she uses with her friends and family for sightseeing in the area. Very positive experience.

We loved our stay at this beautiful home. It has everything you need and it’s like new. We saw dolphins one day and turtles the next. My favorite place (no surprise) is the deck. I could sit out there and listen to the waves crashing on the rocks for hours. Gorgeous views from the master bedroom and all of downstairs. Bed was very comfortable, master bath was wonderful. Fans in every room, kitchen was perfect and had plenty of everything. Melissa made us feel welcome and answered any questions we had. Highly recommend!

My husband and I stayed here for our 1st week ever to visit Hawaii. We were so glad we chose this spot. This house had an amazing view as well as being spotless and perfect in every way. It is located in a quiet neighborhood surrounded by local residents. So very peaceful stay. The kitchen was well equipped - even with condiments in Frig - which is so rare at a rental. The bed in master was also very comfy. We were about 30 minutes from Hilo and about 45 minutes to Volcanoes park. So much to see and do nearby. We saw the caves, the botanical gardens, many state beach parks including a new black sand beach created by the lava flow. All this info was passed along to us by the home’s local host Melissa. She gave us some great tips on local restaurants and cool off the beaten path sites that were not to miss. We highly recommend staying here if your desire is to explore the HVSP and other great sites near Hilo.

In this fantastic home you will be right on the rocky beach. We loved hearing the surf all night long. Sometimes it even vibrates the house with a big wave. We picked a stormy time of year, so sadly unable to use the lanai much as surf spray envelopes the house. This is a great place to connect with the sea. Going out at night under the clouds or stars was fantastic. There is no AC, so it gets a little damp, but we were never hot or uncomfortable. We had a great preview by the home caretaker and intro to the wet side of the island. We followed her advise seeing many of the fun local sites. Thank you for sharing your lovely home.
Tremendous Ocean Views In Pahoa

My wife and I had the opportunity to stay in this wonderful house and it did not disappoint. The owner, Carolyn, and caretaker, Melissa, have done a tremendous job with this place. This was our first trip to the Big Island and this spot in Pahoa put us near to Hilo for many great activities but still secluded enough to enjoy our time relaxing as well.
We had no difficulties finding the house and Melissa was connected with us throughout the journey and even provided us a great little spot, Kaleo's, for dinner one night. The home is in excellent condition and the view is spectacular to wake up to, lay out next to, or fall asleep staring at and listening to the waves. The home also has many things you'll need already and we were pleasantly surprised with the beach gear for our trip to one of the great area beaches over the weekend.
I'd speak highly of this property over and over again and would recommend it to anyone. We know this property will be on our list if we return to the beautiful Big Island some day in the future.

This property was immaculate. It had almost everything anyone would need. The deck was great for ocean viewing...the waves were spectacular when we were there. There were small tables and chairs on either side of the deck which was nice if it was windy out we could sit out and be sheltered if it was cooler out. The beds were very comfortable. There were ceiling fan in all of the rooms which helped keep the house cooler in warmer weather. The appliances were very nice...I really appreciated the nice washer and dryer. There were beach chairs, coolers and beach umbrellas for our use. The neighborhood is very safe and friendly.
We explored that side of the island but the weather was not very cooperative for beach time. We drove over to the other side for quality beach time. It was amazing to see the new lava that had been formed from the volcano. The festival at Uncle Roberts on Wednesdays is always a fun night.
The house was so nice we would not hesitate to stay there again. Melissa, the caretaker was awesome!

The home is exactly as shown in the photos. Our group of five enjoyed our stay very much. The caretaker met us and offered a lot of great advice about what to see and do, which we followed. And of course we also enjoyed just sitting and staring at the ocean for long stretches of time.

Stay here and no need to venture out during the day...you want hang out and enjoy the view...your're connected with great wi-fi service.

Do not cancel your travel plans due to the over-sensationalized hype of the volcano dangers. We stayed at this wonderful home during the very active volcano eruptions and had absolutely no problems to speak of. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets from the lanai, sunny skies, turtles feeding, and waves rolling in. This home has everything you need to enjoy your vacation in the Pahoa/Hilo area.
It was a short drive into Pahoa for dinners and about a 40 minute drive into Hilo. From Hilo it’s easy to get to all the waterfalls and activities along the coast & still make it back in time to watch the sun set.
If you want to get away from the hustle of the town and have a nice secluded stay, this house is for you! Melissa (the caretaker) was wonderful and helpful upon arrival! Thanks!

The home is comfortable, very clean and well appointed. The kitchen is spacious with no shortage of amenities. Airflow is good, beds are comfortable and internet and cell service is reliable. The wrap around deck facing the ocean is a wonderful place to spend time and there is always some shade on the north side if you want to limit sun exposure while still being outside. There is no shortage of wooden deck furniture however we found it hard and a little uncomfortable. When at the home we spent most of our time on the deck including eating meals so this was a little disappointing. Perhaps a couple padded lounge chairs would be beneficial.
Carolyn and Mellisa are helpful and quick to respond to any questions and the neighbours are friendly. This area is lush, green and beautiful due to plentiful rainfall. For our vacation we found staying on the Kona side in combination with this location made for a nice blend of sun/beaches with rainforest and tranquility the east side offers.
The only amenity missing is a BBQ for grilling. The deck flooring is tiled (looks like wood) and has a generous roof overhang for rain protection and is an ideal location for grilling. I envision most people would cook at home here as we did so this would be a welcome addition to oven and stovetop cooking.
We enjoyed our stay very much. It felt like home away from home for us and we would highly recommend staying here.

This place has everything you could want. The garage is a great touch and keeps you out of the rain making it easy to load and unload. All the appliances are updated and the views are amazing. Even though the houses are close, the neighbors are great (we met all of them) and the neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. Great location to Hilo and the volcano.

After spending a great week in Oahu , this was the perfect house & experience! The house is beautiful and has everything you will need to feel right at home ! It has the most spectacular view of the ocean looking down over the black lava rock ! You can see for miles , 360 view of the coastline! Loved the sweet town of Pahoa , many attractions close by , but I have to admit we spent a lot of time at the house watching turtles , dolphins, & awesome sunrises & sunsets ! We just spent 5 nights at this stunning property and we would go back in a heartbeat. The view is incredible (every bit as good as the photos and then some), the home was beautifully decorated and fully equipped, and the nearby area offered terrific activities for our family (lava flows, tidal pool snorkeling, waterfalls, etc.). The owner has thought of every detail to make your stay comfortable and memorable. We also appreciated being greeted by the caretaker and being given some insider tips about the area. New, immaculately maintained, spacious, comfortable house - the photos don't do it justice. Comfortable beds, all kitchenware and appliances were first-rate, reliable Internet, reliable (Verizon) cell service. Quiet, peaceful neighborhood.
We saw green sea turtles in abundance right behind the house, feeding in the rocky shallows every day. The sound of the surf made for great sleep. Volcanoes National Park is right down the road; very convenient. I will definitely stay there again on my next vacation to the Pahoa area!

Very comfortable house to come back to after being out all day exploring the island. You should have seen the excitement in my mom and son when they were finally able to spot the sea turtles. This was was an amazing home. Melissa the caretaker was wonderful. She gave the tour of the home as well as some suggestions of things to do while we were there (things we won't have thought about).
The home had wonderful amenities and was extremely clean. It was the perfect place for my husband, son (1 year old) and I. They had a pack n' play, high chair, and a few kid toys. Our son loved playing on the deck with the buckets and water(fully enclosed deck with no stairs so very safe). The view was great. We had a chance to see many sea turtles and two different groups of dolphins. The location was in a great place, not too far from activities and in a quiet neighborhood.
I would highly recommend this property.

Vacationing in this gorgeous, up-scale modern home was "Ahhh... What a pleasure!" We were particularly delighted with the thick memory foam bedding, sumptuous pillows, tiled shower with a high shower head, and the extra thick gray/white rugs. Of course the entire house was overall excellent, accurately depicted, and evidently very well-maintained. Listening to and watching the waves crash on the rocks, and viewing the moon reflection on the ocean contributed to a dream vacation. We enjoyed meeting Melissa, she contacted us for arrival and departure times, and was very friendly. I wish we could have stayed longer!

We stayed at the house from Feb. 4-9, 2017 and loved it! The house is super comfortable, spacious, very nicely decorated; the kitchen has everything you may need to feel like you do at home; the view is gorgeous--we saw whales every day, turtles several times, lots of interesting fish all the time. When we got to the house, a selection of great , fresh fruit was waiting for us--compliments of the owner, Carolyn, provided by the super nice house care taker, Melissa. We went on a boat ride to see the lava flow--an incredible experience that we highly recommend; we visited the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park; we saw the falls, the macadamia orchard and factory, a farmer's market in Pahoa on Sunday, Hilo. We ate poke from the deli at the local store all the time. It was a great vacation. Thank you, Carolyn:)

The home was immaculate, had a nice layout, and everything was perfect. We enjoyed the great snorkeling in the tide pools only a couple miles away, and also the bike/hike to see the lava where it spills into the ocean. Thanks for making our 40th anniversary so memorable!

What else can you say? The location is amazing. Fall asleep and wake up to the sound of the waves. Close to where you can hike to see the lava flow. Close to the town of Pahoa, which has some great restaurants. The house is tastefully decorated, well-stocked with supplies, and has a perfect amount of space for our group of four. The property manager was very friendly and answered all of the questions we had during our stay.

Walking through the front door, the house looks like it belongs in a magazine! Home away from home and in a great location. Close to the hot ponds, close to Pahoa, and more! Excellent location for exploring the Hilo side of the Big Island and the Volcano National Park. And amenities galore! Kitchen is fully stocked with the great appliances, it's fully stocked, and the dining room overlooks the ocean. Beds are comfy, rooms are a generous size, everything's included. The lanai is wrap-around and so nice for watching the morning sunrise or waves in the moonlight. This is a great place and I'll be back for sure!

We had a great stay in the house during our visit to the big island. The house is in perfect shape and everything was as described with no hidden surprises or outdated pictures of what the house look like when it was new. The kitchen is well stocked with all manners of appliances, dishes, and utensils that I didn't even know existed. The house literally overlook the ocean, unfortunately the weather did not cooperate during our stay so was unable to use the beautiful deck much. The location is about an hour away from VNP, 30 minutes from Hilo, and makes for a good base to explore the southern end of the island. Beds were comfortable, large master suite, and plenty of room to move around the house. The caretaker was helpful and knowledgeable. We also appreciated the full size washer and dryer.

We had a wonderful stay on the big island. The house is overlooking the ocean and we loved watching and hearing the waves crash on the rocks. Beds were comfortable, house was clean, and kitchen had nice appliances and accessories for cooking meals at home. Service and wifi could be spotty around the house but also in other places around the island. Not a huge deal for us since we stayed pretty busy enjoying the island and the views. Melissa the caretaker has great energy and is super friendly and helpful getting you settled in. The close town of Pahoa is small and charming. It has a couple small grocery stores and restaurants. We loved Pelé's for breakfast, fresh and home made food.
Would certainly stay again!

Everything about this home is top notch! Great unobstructed view from all rooms, granite countertops in the fully stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, beautifully tiled bathroom and shower, jacuzzi tub. And everything was super clean. We have stayed in quite a few VRBO homes and this was the best. It does rain quite a bit in Hilo, but we were not hindered from doing all we planned, including hiking to the lava flows, viewing the cauldron at Volcano National Park at night, Hawaiian Botanical Gardens, and seeing the stars from the visitor center on Mauna Kea.

Great owner support; local contact/caretaker Melissa was very helpful with suggestions and knowledge of the Pohoa area. Special thanks for the tip on the drive from the house to the tide pools and beyond via the extension of Rt. 137. The first 4 miles or so are unpaved and narrow but pass through a beautiful old growth tropical forest. Take your time, watch for the ruts, give way to on coming traffic, enjoy the ride...we did it twice, both ways in a small rental car with no issues.
The home is situated ideally for easy day trips to Kona Coast, HVNP, and Hilo area. The house provided everything we needed and more...very nice place for families and anyone who is looking for a quiet, beautiful vacation spot on the Big Island. Mahalo!

What a tranquil setting. The house was spotless and beautifully decorated. It faced the ocean and as we sat on the lanai we enjoyed colorful skies both morning and evening. The lava rocks were filled with little black crabs that scurried around each morning. We fell asleep each evening to the sound of waves. There was plenty of entertainment from Uncle Roberts market to a tour of a rolling tea farm which included a tea tasting of all the teas grown on the farm and much more. Both the owner and the manager were very responsive to our needs. I will certainly return!

We arrived on a late afternoon, in time for the beautiful sunset off of the deck. With a glass of wine in our hands, we drew a deep sigh, listened to the waves, watched the sunset -- and RELAXED! The property has beautiful teak furniture, including chairs and a table. We brought wine and appetizers, which were supplemented by the wonderful fruit tray left for us by the owner Carolyn and her very capable caretaker Melissa. Our small group of ladies was prepared to entertain ourselves, but found that this home had so much to offer! The sunset on the deck was simply AMAZING! The kitchen is well-equipped, with a full set of dishes and cooking utensils and so much more -- we found a full array of basic spices, every utensil we could imagine we might need, and more. The dining and living space is very comfortable and has the most amazing view of the ocean. With the windows open on a beautiful evening, you hear the sound of the waves and see the waves crashing on the rocks below. While just on the ocean, you might want to bring a pair of enclosed shoes -- the rocks are a bit rough. If you want to relax and enjoy the sound of the waves, you couldn't ask for a better place! On our second day, we stood on the deck with a rainbow in our hands and captured it all in photos! This place is AMAZING! Bring a raincoat and be prepared to go, no matter the weather. You won't be disappointed!! There are so many wonderful sights nearby and Carolyn and Melissa have left you a wonderful binder of recommendations. Be sure to ask them for ideas -- they've most likely "been there and done that" and will share their thoughts based on your unique needs! We found we were in driving distance of so many wonderful sights! Come, enjoy and explore! Relax, rest, rejuvenate! You'll leave with new energy. If you're an early bird, the sunrise is amazing!

Can't wait to go back! I was greeted by Melissa, the caretaker, and given a tour of the house. She was a wealth of information regarding local activities and restaurants to visit. Carolyn, the owner, provided a nice array of local fruits. The owner was very helpful throughout the reservation process and was quick to respond. The house is beautiful and nicely furnished with leather furniture in the living room, teak wood furniture on the lanai, modern kitchen appliances and equipment--with granite countertops. The oceanfront view was absolutely breathtaking. Breakfast on the lanai was a special treat. Much of the artwork was created by Melissa. After a day visiting black sand beaches, and tea farms it was fun to come home to DVDs and board games, and to once again watch the wave action at night with the flood lights. I highly recommend this house and it's amenities to others. I visit Hawaii often and I discovered that I really enjoy the east side. I am already booked for a return trip in March.

Tout d'abord, l'accueil personnalisé avec Madame Melissa nous a permis de nous familiariser avec la maison et son fonctionnement. Melissa nous a aussi été d'une grande aide pour planifier les différentes activités et nous indiquer les places à voir et quoi faire sur Big Island.
Plusieurs petits détails sont de mention dont les fleurs fraîches à l'arrivée, un ananas ainsi que des bananes dans le panier à fruits.
La maison a tout pour plaire: plusieurs lits confortables, des serviettes de plages, des glacières pour la plage ou les activités extérieures, des jeux pour enfants, une grande table extérieure avec une vue imprenable. Tout était d'un propre immaculé!
Je recommanderais cette maison à tous et y retournerai sans hésitation!

Just returned last week from the Big Island. Spent 4 days on Kona side and 4 days in this property. Preferred this side of the island the best - more lush and tropical. House was great - modern amenities, very clean, everything functioned properly, caretaker and owner very easy to deal with and the views were simply amazing. Great neighborhood and everyone was very friendly. Lots of adventures available within 45-60 minute radius and some decent local restaurants within 10 minutes. Would definitely recommend this house!!

Ocean front property that is great location and beautful home. Home is immaculent and has excellent furnishings. Well stocked kitchen and misc. beach chairs and equipment make house extra fun. Location is beautiful and close to volcano national park and lava flow and black sand beaches and tidepools.
One word of caution, property manager (house cleaner) wil want to run your check in and check out times if she is busy. We didnt get in to unit until after 5 pm as she was busy that day with other properties and also asked us to leave at 10 am 1 HOUR BEFORE POSTED CHECK OUT TIME as she was busy. Im sure home owner has different story from housekeeper as housekeeper will be covering her own backside. Moral of story, 5 star locations dont allow housekeeper to dictate guest expereience.

We had a wonderful stay here. The home is beautiful and is as shown in the pictures. Carolyn, the new owner is very quick to respond to all questions. We were greeted when we arrived by Melissa, the caretaker. She was very sweet and gave us detailed information on the many things to do. There are numerous water and sightseeing adventures in the area. There was a cooler and games available to use, but no snorkel/water gear, this wasn't problem for us because we brought our own. There was very limited/unreliable internet, so I wouldn't recommend depending on it if you are planning to use it for a working vacation. Be sure to check out the huge Sunday Farmer's market. We had a great time at one of "Uncle Roberts" gatherings on Wednesday. There is free music and local vendors of all kinds. You can buy delicious food/beverages there or bring your own. It is kid friendly in the late afternoon, seating can get tough to find later in the evening. We would definitely love to go back!
