We stayed in the middle of May with our family of 6. We had an amazing time. Some days the water was calmer than others, but all in all, the beach was great for the kids. (I'm sure time of year may change that. ) My oldest and I also had a great time Snorkeling. When you take the path to the beach walk about 50' to the south and it's less rocky and an easier access. You'll see a wall of reef. If you follow that out, you'll see lots of great fish. The house was well stocked with chairs, snorkel gear, a football, etc. The back yard was lots of fun. AC would have been nice, but if you leave the sliders open and create a cross breeze it stays very comfortable. With the house on the end of the street, and such a huge lot, you really do feel like your on your own private oasis. This was one of my favorite places I've ever stayed at. Would highly recommend.

My family and I spent a week here and had an amazing time! The house is on a beautiful piece of property that is so huge and private. It’s peaceful and such gorgeous sunrises and star gazing at night. The house it self is definitely older and being on the ocean takes its toll but everything was perfectly clean when we arrived. Our family loved coming back and resting after a day of adventures!

A wonderful in statestaycation with friends. This house is architecturally wonderful and as a group, we fully understand the difficulties in maintaining a property right on the ocean. The home was exceptionally clean, the location, amazing, the staff, we encountered warm and welcoming, comfortable beds and linens.We had everything we needed for a lovely stay. Opening the sliders to the ocean breezes all day and night was a real treat. That being said, guests need to be aware of what salt does to metal. All sliding doors were equipped with sturdy dowels so the Home could be secured when we were not there. As some may have noted the locks do not all work, but that is simply due to the salt environment. It was a joy spending Thanksgiving week at this home.

What we loved: the basics… cleanliness, kitchen functionality, Wi-Fi, comfortable beds and linens, the architectural design of the house, the warmth and attentiveness of the maintenance and cleaning people we interacted with.
What we loved (that was not basic): the location, the beach, the ability to open doors and feel the ocean breeze, the outdoor spaces… just to name a few.
We live in Hawaii, so we are accustomed to the difficulties in maintaining an oceanfront home. Everything we needed was lovely and functional, and we enjoyed our stay tremendously.

We got up each morning around 5:30 and sat on the deck, facing the ocean and tree view, feeling the gentle breeze and comfortable temperature. We watched Venus rise, following by the clouds turning pink and the sun rising. Just beautiful and calming.We had seen the very negative reviews this year and contacted the management company to see what they had done about it. They responded quickly, detailing all the deferred maintenance that had been done, so we kept our reservation. And, once we arrived, we were glad we had.The inside of the home is very spacious, clean, well lit and well ventilated. The three bedrooms and baths were also spacious and well kept. The property is very private and there was virtually no noise coming from outside, except waves and an occasional chicken.Our only difficulty was that some of the sliding doors and screens were very hard or impossible to open. The hot tub came without instructions, but we were able to get help from the management company—being told that the off/on switches didn’t work, but that we should just push the “clean” button to make the jets work. Problem solved. From the photos, we had assumed we could swim in the bay right next to the property, but it appeared that there was an undertow and we found a very safe beach in town.Overall, it is a wonderful and very comfortable retreat and a great place to enjoy Kauai.

We loved our stay at Sandcastles! It is such a beautiful property we wanted to stay another week! The views are amazing, only a few steps and you are on the beach. The location can not be beat. Very private and minutes from Kapa'a town. It is also close to our favorite beach, Anini. Our only suggestion would be some privacy shades in the bathrooms. Still gets a 10 out of 10 from our group!

My family of 6 adults stayed here for a week and have already talked about renting this house out again. The house finishes are a bit older than photographed, but that seems to be common on the island. The house was stocked with high quality beach equipment including snorkel gear, lounge chairs, beach towels, etc. Would highly recommend this stay!

We’ve stayed here twice already. It’s an unbeatable location with beach access on a pristine quiet beach. It’s next to a river full of palm trees with a jungle look. The property is huge with a large private lawn/garden. The only ding on this listing is that it’s an outdated beach bungalow. It’s overpriced for the accommodations but we still go back because the location is amazing.

Staying at Sandcastles was everything we wished for and so much more. We absolutely loved that we got to see the sunrise from our bed every morning and be lulled to sleep every night by the ocean waves. The beds at Sandcastle were unbelievably comfortable with crisp clean linens (so nice). The spaciousness of this home was fantastic. There were 6 of us visiting and we appreciated that we never felt like we were ever in each others way. Having a beachfront property was a luxury. Everything we needed to enjoy this beach plus the many other on the island was provided...snorkling equipment, boogie boards, beach umbrellas and chairs, and coolers. The gazebo on the property was lovely and we were able to use it for a special day of renewing our vows. We would highly recommend this property! Visiting Kauai and staying here was truly paradise!

The house is very nice. Convenient layout and great views. The location is lovely. It is very quiet and tranquil. And it offers easy drives to the north and south shores to expand access to the island's offerings.
The house is well equipped. The only kitchen item I sought , but could not find was a garlic press. The beach/swimming equipment supplies spared us renting anything but a surf board for my older grandson.
If we return to Kauai we would rent the house again, if it were available.

The spaciousness of the home was welcoming from the entry and they had Hawaiian music playing and a lovely gift assortment for us with a welcome note that made us all feel special.
The walk to the beach is only steps away and between that and the beautifully landscaped yard, I could have stayed there all day.
Plenty of kitchen supplies and space for our families needs. We already want to come back to enjoy this home and location more!

We needed sand castles for our wedding ceremony. My new wife growing up here on the island always was fond of the property and always wanted to stay there. My self growing up here also am familiar with the property and its beautiful location, and also the wonderful people who it belongs to. Everything my new wife ever wanted for a wedding ceremony that place provides, beach setting, landscapes within the property, the stream alongside. It was all perfect for our special day. I can’t thank Eric and Lynn enough. It definitely has been and will always be a special place for us.

Be aware that the only spices in the pantry were salt and pepper, but they were well stocked with sunscreen, bug spray, etc. There was plenty of glassware, utensils, dishes, cooking utensils and pots and pans.
There were plenty of beach paraphernalia downstairs in the room by the door to the beach, which also included another refrigerator.

We were looking for a place that would accommodate 6 adults and a toddler. This house hit it right on. Loved the location, private beach and how quit it was! Lots of room and space to roam. Don’t worry about snorkel gear they have it along with coolers and a few beach chairs. Great time!

...these are the words from all of us. It was a perfect place for a family memory of a lifetime. We celebrated 25 years of marriage bringing our 3 adult kids. It was and ideal home with the 3 bedrooms/baths and the large, spacious great room bigger than it looked in the photos.
The ocean view was gorgeous including beautiful sunrises and starry nights, Especially wonderful was the very private beach only a "few steps" away to enjoy together.
Also, this location was perfect as an anchor to all the activities we had planned both north up to Princeville and south to Poipu Bay. The weather cooperated very well with the 70's/80's and only short rains or mists. We had one morning whale sighting from the house balcony! We all highly recommend this home.

...these are the words from all of us. It was a perfect place for a family memory of a lifetime. We celebrated 25 years of marriage bringing our 3 adult kids. It was and ideal home with the 3 bedrooms/baths and the large, spacious great room bigger than it looked in the photos.
The ocean view was gorgeous including beautiful sunrises and starry nights, Especially wonderful was the very private beach only a "few steps" away to enjoy together.
Also, this location was perfect as an anchor to all the activities we had planned both north up to Princeville and south to Poipu Bay. The weather cooperated very well with the 70's/80's and only short rains or mists. We had one morning whale sighting from the house balcony! We all highly recommend this home.

6 of us best friends from middle/high school celebrated turning 50 in 2020 finally on the beautiful beach of Aliomanu beach. There is not much more than I can say except tranquility for the beach. About every day we had a seal swim into the bay and beach themselves mid day. It was so great, we also saw Manta rays. The beach is pretty shallow with a coral reef the large brakes are way out in the distance. Terrific shallow snorkeling. If the beach is practically empty with only a couple of visitors a day.
The exterior property was maintained fabulously, the gazebo was such a peaceful location the long grass in the huge backyard made the Home feel extra special. There were lots of beach chairs and beach equipment to use. Like any beach house they could use more towels both beach and bath.
The interior was clean, it had tons of space. Each of the 3 bedrooms were nice. Technically two rooms share a bathroom. Then there is a hall full size bathroom outside of the third room that dies have an ensuite bath. I was concerned I was going to be very hot due to the lack of air-conditioning. But once we got the windows open and it cooled off for the evening we were able to keep the house at a manageable temperature. Unfortunately a lot of our linens/clothing were damp due to the humidity from the outdoors due to our windows always being open. Expect a few little bugs and critters like you would in any tropical environment there’s a beautiful serene water weight right next to the house that provides lush vegetation and a stunning view. You can see the ocean directly from the deck and it makes for a wonderful sunrise and sunset location. We use the barbecue it was gas and worked terrific it was clean. The house had someFun board games. This is a great house for small groups. I’m considering renting it for my brothers wedding location possibly. It’s magical. And I would love to come and stay many more times. Mahalo

We loved our stay at Sandcastles! That's an understatement. This place is perfect; incredible location on Aliomanu Bay with great snorkeling just a few minutes walk up the beach, quiet, and relaxing. The house is immaculate with just about any amenity you can need, in great condition, and there is plenty of space here.
The only issue we had was we were notified when we landed in Lihue of a maintenance issue that displaced us for the first night. To Vacasa's credit, they found us a decent condo in the Princeville area until the house was ready for our visit. While the communication during that process could have been a bit better, overall we loved this property and will definitely consider rebooking it our next time back to Kauai.
This house is absolutely beautiful. Very spacious and the layout is perfect!

The property was also huge and beautifully landscaped and my adult kids were able to enjoy their yoga sessions outdoors. We had an intimate wedding on the beach for my daughter and we were able to give them their privacy in the bedroom on the one side of the house. We had 6 adults, a two year old and a nine month old and there was plenty of room. The beach is great for young kids to enjoy but my husband did some fishing and we went hunting for sand crabs at night. The grandkids loved it and so did I:) The house is not air conditioned but with all the sliding doors, the house was very cool. Being right on the ocean, the salt breeze makes maintenance very challenging but the house was clean and maintained very well. Thank you so much for the great family time! We would definitely stay here again!

I did not give all 5 stars due to the following:
1. The road in front of the property had about 1 ft of water on the day of checking in.
2. The cable TV and Internet did not work for more than 24 hrs. One TV stopped working completely.
Other than that, it is a beautiful property, so close to paradise.

Beautiful home, great grounds and ocean sounds! Every thing we needed for a wonderful vacation. Home was spacious with 3 full baths, a lot of kitchen and beach amenities; it was perfect. Needed some floor fans in the main area just to keep airflow and maybe some remote control shades for upper east & west facing windows to reduce sun-bake. Awesome home, wonderful vacation and had absolutely everything we needed!! Close to Princeville & Hanalei and Kapaa but far enough out to enjoy peace & quiet. Million-dollar views!

Home is very comfortable, and private. Very little traffic pass the property as location is at the end of the street. Enjoyed this our 2nd visit even more than the 1st. Even added a second French coffee press since last visit. Kitchen is well equipped with dishes, glassware & utensils. Very comfortable beds.

Words and pics don’t do this place justice! It truly has everything you might need, down to bandaids and peroxide. We grilled in one night, kitchen is fully stocked (minus a wine opened but we improvised). The views can’t be beat. Not technically your own private beach but it basically worked out that way. Was a bit worried about no air conditioning but the wind blowing through was wonderful and we didn’t really miss having air conditioning.
Loved this place, best private residence I have ever rented and I do hope to be back!

Best property I have ever rented through any vacation app! I normally stick with Marriott because they are safe. I travel a lot for work, have points, etc so it’s always just normal.
Every time I rent through HomeAway or VRBO, I stress before arriving. Seems like they are rarely as great as displayed but this one was!!! Actually, it was more. No air conditioning and my family first looked at me like I had lost my mind, the breeze blows so well you don’t need anything else with the doors opened.
The rooms are huge with great views from all of them. The kitchen is extremely well stocked as was the rest of the house from bandaids, peroxide, swim shoes, etc.
The property is beautiful, we did family pics in the “lagoon” area. We basically had the beach to ourselves. And, I was worried about how far of a walk it would be....it’s like 20 feet.
It was a very secluded area and our girls didn’t like how remote it was. But, my husband and I did, maybe that’s an age thing!
We had two very small issues but the Vacasa was quick to respond. We also met the cleaning lady twice, she was super helpful and informative.
Not sure when we will get back to Kauai but we will stay here.

This was our second stay at Sandcastles, we love this house! This was the most relaxing trip we six have had. We mostly stayed at the house and enjoyed the beach even with the cool temps, high trade winds and mostly cloudy. We did go to Smith Gardens Luau, Hanelei, Waimea Canyon and Kauai Backcountry Adventures (tubing the plantation canal and tunnels). We plan to book next year soon!

Sitting in the hot tub with a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening was great. We took walks on the beach most mornings and even by moonlight one evening. Bali Hai was incredible to work with, attentive to our needs, polite and professional. We would highly recommend this property. We went for a family vacation and it could not have been better. We had many plans for things to do on the island but opted out of some to have more time at the house. The beach was awesome and where we spent most of our time. The only time we saw other people was early in the morning as they were walking, had it to ourselves pretty much the whole time. We loved the big yard, played many yard games and the kids loved to race to the gazebo. It could not have been more memorable for our family. The location of this property is great, central to most everything we did while there. Will definitely keep this one on our list to revisit. We give it five stars in all catagories. We rented this house for our Spring Break. Two adults and three teens. We have rented several houses via VRBO and this house did not disappoint! Very spacious with great views and direct access to the beachfront. You will slumber to the wonderful sounds of the ocean. The house faces East and you will experience wonderful sunrises. Wifi was a plus for the teens keeping in touch with their mainland friends. The property concierge was very accessible and helpful.

My wife and I have vacationed for years with our best friends, two other couples. Our goal vacationing is to relax, enjoy each others company in a private setting and experience fun and exciting activities. Sandcastles was by far the best vacation of our lives. This was our 4th trip to the islands together and this home fit us perfectly. We have been to Maui twice and Kauai twice. Kauai, the Kapaa area, has become our favorite. With a low key, relaxing Hawaiian village atmosphere this area is our perfect vacation experience. The home on an acre at the end of a dead end road on the beach of Aliomanu reef was amazing. Each couple had our own master suite and bath, one with a soaking tub. The hot tub with ocean view was so relaxing. Sitting on the lanai or on the beach below was something we did for hours enjoying each others company while watching whales. It is centrally located between the North and South shore of the island. Our kayak trip up the Wailua River was beautiful and educational thanks to Matt our guide with Kayak Adventures Kauai. Golfing the Wailua Golf course was great, with the ocean all along the East side, and very reasonably priced. We plan to return in 2018!

The house and grounds are well-kept and clean. Ocean views out one side and mountain views out the other. Being at the end of a dead end road there was very little traffic - something that cannot be said for the rest of the island. The house stays reasonably cool as long as the trade winds are blowing. There is no air conditioning but plenty of fans. One review said the house was musty but I'm pretty sensitive to mold/mildew smells and had no issues. The roosters may wake you up but if you've ever been to Kauai you know that's part of the island no matter where you are. The location worked well for us as we wanted to see all of the island. It's about an hour drive to Kalalau on the north and 1-1/2 to the canyon. Traffic through Kapaa can be slow during rush hour but the bypass helps. Would love to return when the piggy bank fills back up.

My wife & I stayed at Sandcastles with our family; 7 adults, + 2 grandchildren ages 1 & 4. Sandcastles exceeded our expectations. It’s a very comfortable home. Its spaciousness afforded tons of room for everyone. The kitchen is well equipped. The floor plan creates ocean views from every room. The high vaulted ceilings add to the feeling of spaciousness. The deck that surrounds the home features a hot tub. The mud room downstairs contains plenty of snorkeling gear, boogie boards, beach chairs, & toys for the kids. There’s even fishing gear if one is interested in casting a line in the surf. The tiled space on the ground level below the house is a great feature. It was a cool place to hang out and enjoy the beautiful grounds that surround the home, which are very well maintained, & only add to the sense of luxury one feels at Sandcastles. The private beach is just steps away. We didn’t swim at this beach as it was a bit rough & wild during our stay in late January; early February. But beautiful Anahola Beach is just up the road 8/10’s of a mile. Anahola Beach proved to be our favorite beach on the island. It’s mostly frequented by locals who bring their families to play on the beach & the Anahola River that enters the sea here. This is a fantastic place for the family to hang out for the day. Further up the beach is Anahola Beach Park, which has the usual park amenities plus a lifeguard. As the property is located at the very end of a dead-end road guests are afforded tons of privacy; No traffic-No tourist. One feels like they have all of Kauai to themselves. The location is also convenient to Kapaa, a nice laidback tourist type town with plenty of restaurants, shops, & other tourists’ attractions. We highly recommend Sandcastles. And with our family of 6 staying we had plenty of room to just hang out as a family and relax. The deck was spectacular for views and the hot tub for stargazing. Loved it. Only downfall was screen doors are all sticky. Don't know if they need to be changed up clean the tracks or switched to French doors. But I think being in the humidity and close proximity to ocean may mean troubles either way Would love to go again

We had a lovely time at the Sandcastles rental. We had 6 adults and 1 4yr old stay for 1 week in May 2015. It was nice to have a full bathroom for each couple (1 bathroom not directly connected to the room like the other 2). We had a lovely, beach wedding ceremony steps away from the lawn, followed by a tent reception in the HUGE grassy lawn surrounded by lush garden which gave us more privacy. We can't wait to return to this home again someday! My only feedback is they could use a new shower head in the large, master bathroom and it would be nice if the sliding doors locked more securely (each door had a dowel that kept it locked). Many thanks to Lisa who promptly answered our numerous questions!

For us, the most outstanding feature of this house was that we neither saw nor heard neighbors, despite being right on the beach. That has to be unique in a beachfront property in this price range. You feel like you are on an estate. The house is as pictured – very nice. Property managers were responsive. In December we had a fair amount of wind some days, and some rain, which is not unusual on that side of the island in winter. There were also high surf advisories every day which made it too rough for good swimming and snorkeling at our beach – again something that can happen in winter. But if we wanted sunny beach time we just had to drive south.

The property location, and grounds are spectacular. Our group included four adults and our 15 year old son who loved hanging out on the beach (swimming, snorkeling), playing football and badminton on the amazing lawn aw well as just laying in the hammock. The house is well stocked and very spacious. The hot tub was used every night. Shopping is close by and the house is an easy drive to the North or South part of the island. The kitchen was well stocked and everything worked perfectly. The house had lots of beach supplies and a wonderful outdoor shower. The house's open concept is perfect for family get togethers. Other family members stayed down the road and we all got together for dinners with plenty of room. The covered patio was the perfect place to hangout. We can't wait to come back....7 days was not long enough. There are a few minor items that could improve the experience; 1) a new shower head in the master bath, 2) a new outdoor BBQ (I saw others mention this as well), 3) window covering in the bathroom facing the river and 4) non-foam pillows. All these little things is the reason for a 4 star rating rather than a 5 star rating for general property condition.

The rental property was even better than what I imagined. A huge private yard with a beautiful beach that is essentially private also. The house was immaculate and very open. It was tempting to spend most of our time right there. I would definitely rent it again. I only had two small issues that are hardly worth mentioning: The lighting over the sink in the shared bathroom needs some improvement over the sink. I think some lights were burned out. I had some problems with the outdoor barbeque grills. They probably should be replaced soon. Neither issues were a big deal. This was my second visit to Kauai. Truly an enchanting island. Paradise. Thought about "losing" my plane ticket back to the frozen U.P. of Michigan. Can't wait to visit again!

My family of five (ages 18-86), spent nine relaxing days at Sandcastles, and had a great Hawaiian vacation.
I could go into detail about how nice the location, house, and garden are, but all that has been said. What we think is the best feature of this property is the beach, and that's what we'll describe.
Sandcastles is located right in the middle of a quarter mile stretch of sand on Aliomanu Bay. The beach is mostly about 20 feet wide the whole stretch except for right in front of your path where "Kong's Lagoon" is located. Here, the beach is about 50 feet wide and is the nicest part of the beach. At each end is an exposed rocky reef. The reef goes out about 200 yayds and almost completely encircles the beach except for an open channel in the middle. The water stays flat inside the reef except for small wind chop. The water inside the reef is shallow, mostly 1 to 3 feet depending on tide, and shallowest on the north side. The waters' edge is a mix of small rocks and sand with a couple sandy chutes for the nicer swimming entry and exits. The house has a great supply of reef walkers and other beach paraphernalia. Snorkeling can be good on medium or higher tide. The best assortment of fish and coral is just on the south side of the channel out about 120 yards and more. There is a current running from each end toward the middle of the beach and then back out through the channel. For beginning snorkelers, enter the water on the north end of the beach and let the current take you back to the house. Outside the reef is not good for boogie boarding or surfing. The currents there make the surf too choppy and confused. You can kayak or SUP inside or out, just watch out for the shallow spots. You can paddle up to Papa'a beach or down to Anahola Bay an ride the inside break.
It's been said that this beach is mostly uninhabited by other beachgoers. Our visit was on the 4th of July week (probably the height of the summer season), and that was not the case. Because the section of beach in front of the house is the nicest part of the beach, it is also the spot most people go to sunbathe and fish. This beach is definitely away from the touristy resort crowd, but if you are looking for a truly isolated experience, come here in the offseason.

There were four of us, two couples, but this house was big enough for three couples, and all of us agree that we loved this home. It's fully equipped, the kitchen is great, the downstairs patio with BBQ is really nice, and we BBQ'd every night. Grab the beach chairs, a bottle wine, and set yourselves up on the beach for evening cocktails, or you can go sit in the beautiful gazebo. The property this home is on is incredible, with lush gardens, a lagoon "Kong's Lagoon", and the beach is wonderful. There is great snorkeling here, lots of fish, and clear shallow water to swim, but bring your reef walkers. Lots of beach toys, masks, fins, balls, etc were provided, and there is an outdoor shower to use before going back into the house. This is a very quiet location, and all you will hear is the surf, and the birds, but there is a TV in eveery room, and good cable cahnnels. Nice grocery stores are not too far away in Kapaa, but I would suggest going to Costco when you get your rental car in Lihue, stocking up on supplies. There is a very nice spa out on the expansive deck, and we enjoyed it every morning and evening. The rental compay was great to deal with, and the Concierge was very helpful with advice on activities, as well as settiing up reservations. What can I say, you will have a great vacation here!
