Neighborhood

The neighborhood:
Keaau is a rural, green community south of Hilo, a useful base for exploring the Puna district and the Big Island's east side. Lava Tree State Monument, Panaewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens, and Hilo Municipal Golf Course are all within about 12 miles. Hilo offers markets, restaurants, and practical errands, while Puna's coastal roads lead toward lava landscapes, tide pools, and dramatic ocean views. A car is essential here. Choose this area for breathing room, tropical scenery, and access to the island's wilder side rather than walkable resort life.

Transit

Getting around:
Hilo International Airport is about 20 minutes away, a quick and easy drive. A rental car is recommended for reaching the Puna coast's beaches and Hilo's shopping and dining just down the road. Keaau itself is a small community with a modest walkable center, so most errands call for a short drive. Parking is generally simple and available on site.

Hidden gem in paradise

Megan W. · Oct 2024

We had a beautiful stay for 2 months in this home and we loved it. The property is beautiful and the sounds of nature at night are beautiful. We brought our dog as well and he had plenty of room for exploring. The home is in great condition and lots of space! Everything was easy to set up and staff were very communicative when needed.

Amazing home in paradise!

Very great house to stay at! Nice and private/secluded. House is very spacious and has lots of room. No problems when we stayed, other than losing power during a storm, and staff was very tentative about that. We loved it! üòä
