This was a perfect home base for me to explore the island. I was travelling alone and stayed in the condo for 10 days in January 2017. The condo is HUGE – very comfortable for a couple or even a small family. It is ground floor and reasonably close to the parking lot so hauling groceries etc from the parking lot is not so bad. It is also close to the pool where there are BBQs. There is no air conditioning, but I didn’t need it. There are large windows at either end of the condo so the air flows through and the condo has lots of fans. The bed is king size and VERY comfortable, with pillows for every taste. One flaw: the bathtub faucet did not work – so only showers were available. But the water pressure was good and there was lots of hot water. The kitchen was well equipped for basic cooking. The furniture was old fashioned but very comfortable! I did not watch tv or use any of the electronics so I can’t comment on that. The wifi was excellent once I got the password. I couldn’t find the basic information at first as it was tucked away in the dining room – it should be placed on the kitchen counter where it can be easily found upon arrival.
The location, in my view, is perfect. South shore, close to everything including amazing beaches, snorkelling, restaurants – everything I wanted. It’s a long drive to the north shore so I planned my visits and only went there two days. Parts of Lihue were beautiful but (in my view) nothing compared to Poipu. I had the Lonely Planet’s Guide to Kauai and it was so spot on, I would never travel without one again.
The pool is COLD. However, I noticed all the pools are quite cold, including the Marriott where I spent my last day before a late night flight home and also the Hyatt, which I stuck my feet in after a hike nearby. Maybe they are warmer at other times of the year. I used the BBQ at the pool and it was awesome. Better than the one I have at home.
I read a lot of reviews before I went and many people complained about the “nature noises” at WSV. It is true, there are a lot of bird, rooster and bull frog noises. However, there are roosters EVERYWHERE on the island so you won’t get away from that. And this unit – the bedroom window does NOT face the stream, so I did not find the noise an issue at all. In fact, I found it very peaceful and quiet. That may be a matter of personal taste.
This is not a 5 STAR place in terms of furniture etc. but it is so comfortable and quiet and well located
